For the younger crowd, Downtown Bookworks offers some great hard cover books that will carry them through the infant and toddler years.  Two great choices for the little ladies in your life would be My Favorite Purse and My Favorite Shoes.  These books measure in at 7″x7″ each and feature interactive, touch and feel fun which is perfect for those curious little kids.

Another pair of board books that strikes kids’ fancy happens to be the Turn The Key Around Town and Art from the Start’s Animals In Art books.  The Turn The Key book features a plastic key tethered to the top of the book that unlocks lifting flaps on pages throughout the book.  The Animals In Art introduces children to fine art through a variety of intriguing animal paintings.

For kids ages preschool and up, the PBS Kids Look And Learn Line offers some great choices including Look and Learn Birds and Look and Learn Insects.  Featuring fun kits that include a 64 page book packed with fun facts and photos as well as tools to explore your outdoor adventure, kids will be begging to head outdoors.  (The Insect Kit has a magnifier jar while the Bird Kit includes binoculars.)

For ages 5 and up, another way to get kids out in nature is through the Into The Field Guide: A Walk in the Woods Kit.  Included is a 112 page book loaded with hands-on introduction to neat critters, trees, flowers, and rocks making clear IDs easier for kids.  Also included is a mesh bag and bug magnifier jar which are just the things little explorers can use when on the hunt for common critters.

And finally, I want to suggest the brand new The Official DC Super Hero Joke Book.  Packed to the brim with over 600 riddles, puns, tongue twisters, knock-knocks, and more, kids will be laughing and telling jokes for weeks on end.  The illustrated pictures make it all the more appealing!
