I was sent product from Pearl Vodka and Everclear. All opinions are my own.

So often when it comes to getting gifts, I think luxurious or practical. The last few days this forward has been cycling around my Facebook page. The meaning behind the post is to explain how mother’s don’t much care about the gift they get. Instead, most moms just want to spend time with their kids, relax and have fun!

From that perspective, picking up some alcohol such as Pearl and Everclear as well as some ingredients to make homemade cocktails is a great fit for mother’s day. Adult-children can kick back and relax with mom in a way that still feels special and even feminine!

Pearl Lime Basil is vodka that can be used in cocktails. It pairs well with lemon-lime sodas or does well in sweet and sour mix. Here is an example of a cocktail that can be made with Pearl in Lime Basil.

Pompelmoncello

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 large ruby red grapefruits
  • 1 bottle (750mL) Everclear®
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water

Instructions:

  • Peel the zest from grapefruits
  • Remove pith.
  • Combine zest and Everclear® in a large, sealable container.
  • Let steep for 30-40 days in a cool, dry place.
  • Once infused, make simple syrup by dissolving sugar into boiling water.
  • Strain grapefruit infusion into a clean container using a funnel and coffee filter.
  • Add cooled simple syrup to taste.
  • Store in freezer, and enjoy.

Tips:

  • Straining through a coffee filter is a useful but patient process. Cheesecloth is always a faster alternative, but coffee filtration will give you the desired clarity in one pass. Changing to a fresh filter can help speed up the process as well if it’s slowed.
  • While organic ruby red grapefruits are preferred, try your hand at other types or whatever is available. You may find that there’s another variety you prefer.
  • Feel free to play around with not only the infusion to syrup ratio, but also the ratio of sugar to water in the syrup itself. If you like sweet and strong, you might want to add more sugar into the syrup and use it in lower quantity with the infusion.

These are just two possible cocktail possibilities. If you know what your mom’s taste preferences are, check out the Pearl website or search the web for other cocktail recipes that include these spirits. Options are almost limitless!
