By now you’re all aware that my sister is expecting a baby girl in mid-late March. She has a two year old son, so she had a lot of baby items already but with Kelsie being a girl, we have enjoyed splurging on some more girly items for her. One item that I knew Erica would need for Kelsie was a carseat, seems how the carseat that she used for Drew as an infant had expired since then. Even though it’s only been two years since Drew was born, safety standards and laws regarding carseats change really quickly so I think it’s a great idea to replace carseats between kids most of the time anyway.
I got reading about how Quinny and Maxi Cozi have teamed up to introduce the White collection which includes an infant carseat that is rather unique, and I was pretty intrigued. In the last couple of years, more and more people have began understanding that rear facing even beyond 12 months and 20 pounds is significantly safer than forward facing. Some states have even went s0 far as to make it a law that babies under age 2 have to be rear facing. That isn’t the case yet here in Michigan, but I would not be surprised if it goes into law before Kelsie turns two. Of course, when rear facing until age 2, you have to switch out of an infant seat but infant seats that last longer are becoming more of interest now. So, one of the big features of the White Prezi that interested me was the 30lb weight limit and 29 inch height limit which allows babies to stay in their infant seat longer. The average height for a 12 month old baby girl is 27-31 inches), while the average weight is just 21lbs, so most babies will be able to fit into the Maxi Cosi at least up to their first birthday. The weight limit certainly allows the infant seat to be used longer than many other infant carseats. I have seen many babies exceed their infant carseats weight limit as young as seven or eight months old. This carseat allows parents the freedom to continue using their infant carseat roughly up to their first birthday, even if their baby exceeds the typical 20 or 22lb weight limit that other infant seats have. Especially for babies like Kelsie born in the spring or late winter, I know it’s common for parents to appreciate the ability to keep their baby in an infant seat even at 10-12 months old because they can keep them wrapped in a blanket from car to their destination.
The seat comes with a removable cushion that is designed to be used with newborns early on, and can be removed as baby grows which allows baby to slide deeper into the seat, providing more leg room. The base is adjustable to five positions, and has rebound control. I’ll be honest – I had to look up what rebound control was. The base features a bar that comes up in an upside down “u” shape in the area where babies feet are, which I had never seen before. This rests against the back of the seat. In a collision, rear-facing carseats absorb the impact from a back of the car to the front of the car motion – then, the impact reverses (this is why adults tend to be forced forward and then back again). The rebound bar is designed to lessen the amount of movement that occurs when the impact reverses, by keeping the carseat from being able to be shoved backwards, into the seat. If you want or need, you can use the carseat without the base by using the cars seatbelt. The base also has a nice description of the different ways that the carseat and base can be used which includes pictures that help illustrate its points, and has a storage area for the manual.
The carseat also has airprotect technology, which is why the area next to baby’s head seems so “puffy”. This is designed to protect baby’s head during a side collision. The “puffy parts” protect baby’s head from the impact while also releasing air in a way that is designed to further lessen the impact.
Parents of preemies or other small babies will appreciate that it can be used starting at 4lbs, which is a lower minimum weight than most other infant carseats. I was able to get a pretty tight fit even with a stuffed animal, so you can tell how it truly adjusts really small.
There are two features that aren’t really safety features per-say, but that I feel can be connected to safety as well. This carseat has a front-adjust harness, meaning you simply pull the tether that is located in the middle of the front of the seat (between baby’s feet/legs) to tighten the harness. Seems how this makes it so easy to tighten your child’s carseat to a proper fit, it’s likely to get tightened more often and thus, make your baby safer. The second is the no re-thread harness system. Instead of having to re-thread the straps, you simply turn the seat around, squeeze the two light gray sections together and slide up to raise the height of the straps. I know how much of a pain it is to re-thread carseats, and I know it’s something that parents put off because it’s such a big inconvenience even when they know their carseat is no longer properly fitting their baby. The adjustment is so easy with this seat that there is no reason to delay it, again making your baby safer and certainly being way more convenient.
The safety features aren’t the only thing about the Maxi Cosi Prezi White that make it stand out from the crowd. It also has a unique sunshade that hooks onto the parents carry bar, so it automatically pulls out when you adjust the bar into the carrying position. It also has a “boot” which covers up the lower portion of baby’s legs, which provides a few different purposes from helping to keep bottles, pacifiers, toys and blankets from falling out of the carseat while being carried to keeping baby a bit warmer. Both the sunshade and boot are removable if you prefer to not use them.
The backside of the buckle is cushioned which puts a space between the buckle and baby’s body, so their skin does not get pinched into the buckle itself. The harness has a unique “easy out” design so that the harness stays in place after baby is removed, making it easier to get baby in and out of the seat without battling the straps.
Whew! That is a lot of cool and unique features. I was excited to see that the seat came in this really bright, rare shade of pink (called passionate pink). It’s very eye-catching and will certainly make your baby stand out. It’s also available in black (black irony) and blue (blue defiance). I knew Passionate Pink would be perfect for Kelsie, and I gave this seat to my sister Erica at her baby shower. It made a great baby shower gift for her and I’m happy to know that Kelsie will have a safe, quality carseat that will last her quite a while.

I absolutely LOVE all of the wonderful features on this carseat. We’re on the fence for a third and won’t be able to use the carseat we used for our first two so I’ll be putting the Maxi Cozi on my list.

It’s so awesome how advanced baby safety technology is becoming – I love that this carseat has airprotect technology. I now know what gift I’m getting the next time I attend a babyshower. Thanks!
