Women tend to take on so much at once, that when we get sick, it’s hard to slow down because we feel the need to take care of so much. Working, cooking and cleaning just for starters. This is particularly true for moms. While I admit that when Ryan is sick, it sometimes takes me longer than it should to remember that I too, am capable of taking out the trash. The same thing happens in reverse when I am sick and unable to keep up with my typical responsibilities.
Most of the time when I’m sick, it’s hard for me to stay in bed even when I know that I probably should. I find myself doing a load of laundry or a load of dishes when nausea dies down or I find a small burst of energy. What really, really slows me down is when I get sick and as a result don’t sleep well. I end up completely exhausted and that’s when I really, really go downhill. I was 19 or 20 before I ever tried NyQuil. I remember watching my dad use it when he was sick as a kid, and I kind of thought of it as a men’s medication, but after trying it the first time, I have relied on NyQuil when I get sick. It allows me to sleep even if I am so sick that it’s hard for me to sleep. Using NyQuil to help me sleep lets me rest enough to find enough energy to keep going, which is priceless when I’m under the weather.
Despite relying on NyQuil to help me sleep while sick, I have never tried DayQuil, though I have heard great things about it. I was recently sent both DayQuil and NyQuil but thankfully Ryan & I have both been healthy the last couple of weeks so we haven’t had a chance to give it a try yet, but I’m sure I will be happy with it if it performs anywhere near as well as NyQuil does.
