Like most people nowadays, I’m trying to eat healthier. Of course, it’s far easier to eat healthy when you have healthy foods that you love. I love avocados. I love everything made with avocados, and avocados are extremely healthy. Since I love them so much, I was thrilled to be able to review some avocados.
Avocados From Mexico, the Amazing Avocado are high quality hass avocados from Mexico. You can find them at your local grocery store.
Here are the avocados, along with a few other items I was sent:
The avocados, as you can see, are a great size. They’re large. They arrived a little bit firm, which was great. It gave me a few days before they fully ripened up. Avocados ripen off the tree, so it’s perfectly fine to get a hard avocado. You just have to wait for it to ripen!
I also received an avocado slicer, which I used for each avocado, and definitely liked having it. Avocados aren’t too hard to cut, and peel, but this certainly made it even easier.
I also received a Mexican recipe book, that focused on Mexican sauces. They had a whole section on guacamole, which was perfect for the avocados!
I also received some cute T-shirts:
Adorable right?
Well, on to the avocados themselves. It took a couple days for them to ripen up fully. I actually waited a day longer than I normally do before I started using the avocados. I read in the recipe book, that most people use avocados too soon. So, I waited an extra day, and I was definitely glad I did! Once the avocados were ripe, I put the ones I wasn’t using right away in the fridge, which extends their life for another few days.
I like avocados just plain, with some salt on them. But, I also like them in a lot of different ways. After having a few slices plain, and loving how they tasted, I made a few things with the avocados.
One thing I made was “green pudding.” This is a recipe I found on a Specific Carbohydrate Diet website, pecanbread.com, you can find the Green Pudding recipe on their site. I first tried it a few years ago. It sounds really weird, and the first time I tried it, I thought it would be disgusting, but I was so happy I did. I’ve loved this recipe ever since, and it’s super easy. You just put one ripe banana (one of the ugly brown ones, you want it to be sweet), half an avocado, and a tablespoon of nut butter (I used almond butter) in a blender. You blend it up, and there you have it!
Okay, so maybe it doesn’t look very great either, but I swear it’s delicious. The avocados give it a nice, creamy texture. The texture is exactly that of normal, unhealthy pudding. It’s also sweet, and tastes delicious. You wouldn’t know you’re eating something so healthy! If you want a healthy, yet yummy snack, definitely try this.
I also made guacamole with my avocados:
I like really basic guacamole. I just cut up a ripe avocado, smash it up in the bowl. I then add some lemon juice, salt, a little bit of cayenne pepper, and a little bit of onion powder to taste. With these avocados, it turned out especially yummy. I like to eat guacamole with tortilla chips, or on a warm corn tortilla. I also love it with tacos. After making the guacamole I had to make some beef tacos to eat it with.
So yummy!
Lastly, I also made some lentil soup with avocado. Lentil soup is incredibly easy to make, and very healthy. There’s lots of different recipes online. Once I’ve made the lentil soup, I then like to put slices of raw avocado in it. I like lentil soup on its own, but I love it with avocado. It’s a really great pair.
These were really great. They all tasted amazing. Nice and creamy. It was hard not to eat them too fast! Avocados are a great healthy addition to many meals. They have lots of vitamins and minerals, fiber, they help you absorb more nutrients from the food you’re eating, they’re full of healthy fats, the list goes on. You can view more nutritional information on the Avocados from Mexico website here. They also have lots of recipes, and tips on their website as well.
Hopefully I’ve inspired you to try a healthy avocado recipe yourself!
