discoveroo xylophoneDiscoveroo is an Australian company that specializes in educational toys and games. The idea to create a brand that offers wooden toys and games evolved out of the desire of 2 parents to provide their children with high quality, safe, and durable toys that promote creative play. Their toys are now sold in Australia, New Zeland, the US, Canada, the UK, Japan and more.

Since its launch in 2009, Discoveroo has been creating toys and games that foster imaginative play and exploration. Many toys encourage pretend play which we know is good for cognitive development  and language development. There is a great variety of products available from rattles and pull toys for little ones to  shape sorters and stacking rings to doll house furniture and puzzles for older children. Here is a small sample of Discoveroo’s products.

discoveroo maracaAll Discoveroo products meet or exceed safety standards. It’s interesting to know that all aspects of their toys are tested, not just their coating so they are as safe as can be. They are also tested against the toughest standards to ensure that they will last. Discoveroo only uses plantation wood for their products.

For this review, I received the beautiful Fruit Music Set. The set comes in a wooden box and includes 5 wooden instruments. There is an Apple Xylophone, a Lemon Maraca, a Lime Handle Castanet, and Melon Castanet and Pear Guiro.

Each instrument is colorfully painted and my daughter was immediately drawn to them. I love how each instrument has a unique shape and design to make it look like a fruit. The Apple Xylophone and Pear Guiro have an especially interesting design.

discoveroo set

discoveroo guiroMy daughter first figured out the Lemon Maraca and Apple Xylophone. The Xylophone has the distinctive sound of wooden xylophones which I find more pleasant and quieter than metallic ones. The Melon Castanet requires more coordination and she didn’t know how to hold it at first but after seeing me use it a few times, she quickly picked it up. The Lime Handle Castanet is more difficult because of the back and forth movement but I’m sure if we keep practicing, she’ll learn to play it instrument too.

My daughter absolutely loves the Pear Guiro. Maybe it’s because of its unique sound or maybe because of the little leaf used to rub against the grooves. Either way, that’s the one that gets her moving every time!

It’s cute to see her dance to her own tunes. She will often grab one instrument and hand me another so we can play together. She really loves music and this is a perfect set of instruments for her. I know it’ll last for a long time and we’ll have many more hours of fun with our Fruit Music Set.

  • Such an adorable set! I should get this for my niece!

Yes, it’s really fun and I have yet to meet a child who doesn’t like music. I’m sure your niece would love it!

  • Those are so cute! They look really well made too and like they would last for a long time. My kids would have loved these when they were little.

Thanks Tesa! Yes, they are really well made. Look for their other products, they have tons of stuff for older kids too.

  • This looks like so much fun!! My daughter loved musical toys. She is 12 and plays 3 instruments and sings. Keep at it, they will develop their love for music in no time!

I was thinking the same thing Maria. I never learned to play in instrument properly but I would have love to so I’ll try to give my daughter as many opportunities to develop her skills as I can. We’ll see how it turns out! 3 instruments + singing is quite impressive!

  • This is absolutely adorable! I have a few friends who’s kids are turning 1 this year and this would be the perfect gift.

It would make a perfect gift. I should specify that it says 3 years+ on the box so maybe it wouldn’t be the best for 1 year olds. I guess the pear leaf and and the xylophone mallet might become a safety hazard for little ones if they were to come apart. My daughter is 18 months and doesn’t mouth anything and is generally very gentle with toys so I wasn’t worried about the age recommendation but I just wanted to point it out just in case.

I love educational toys and never have seen wooden musical instruments–how unique! These would be great keepsakes to hand down in the family.
