Sometimes, having basic sewing skills can feel like more of a disadvantage than an advantage. I look at things in the store and think “Why would I buy that when I could make it for 1/4 of the price?”. In the past, I’ve thought that about nursing pillows. A c-shaped pillow? I could make that with a bag of polyfil and $3 worth of fabric. That was, until I discovered the Mombo. This isn’t just fabric stuffed with polyfil.

The mombo is unique in that it has two sides, one being soft like most other nursing pillows, with the other side bein firm. The soft side is great for using the Mombo as a supportive device for helping babies sit up before they can sit up on their own. It’s also great for tummy time. The firm side almost feels like a firm type of foam and is great for using while feeding your baby because it won’t “smush down” and cause your baby to be too low to nurse. So, mombo nursing pillows are unique based on how they are two sided, but it’s also unique for another HUGE reason. Mombos come with a device that can be placed inside of the Mombo and turned on, and then it vibrates, to soothe your baby.

I tested this pillow out with my (rather petite – she’s 8.5 lbs) 7 week old niece, Kelsie. Of course, she is far too young to be anywhere close to sitting up on her own, so I was happy that she could sit propped up thanks to this pillow. The center of the Mombo is smaller than other nursing pillows which was great for using as an infant positioner with her. However, large parents might find it difficult to position around them. Kelsie seemed quite content to be propped up where she can see the world instead of laying down. I am sure that as she grows, her interest in being upright will only grow so I think even babies who are not being breastfed could get a good amount of use out of the Mombo.

The Mombo Nursing Pillow is available at Babies R Us and can be purchased plain or with a cover, and you can purchase additional covers that suit your taste. They have some super cute covers available including some that have “taggies” on them which is such a neat idea.
