I was sent items from Fruit Of The Loom for the purposes of this review. The following is my honest opinions.
Most of the time, when you hear people talk about struggling to buy a gift for someone, it’s because the person seems to already have everything, or their interests are super complicated and specific. While I agree that those people are hard to shop for, really simple people can be tough to buy for as well. My dad is in his late 60’s and is a really simple guy. He doesn’t own a computer, or a cell phone – his house phone isn’t even cordless! He goes to the same barber every time he needs his hair cut – and his closet only contains his dress clothes and Christmas decorations. He’s not the type of guy to just buy things he doesn’t use or to have clutter at all. He only buys what he’ll get a lot of use out of, and he never throws things away that he can still use or fix.
So, when it comes to father’s day or his birthday, I always struggle with what to get him. In the past i’ve tried dress shirts, slippers, and Cd’s from his favorite singers. Only to realize months later that I’ve never seen him wear or use what I got him. Eventually I came to the realization that he doesn’t care for change and won’t try something new unless the old one fell apart (and wasn’t fixable!) and he can’t find an exact copy of the old one. So, I’ve started looking to try to replace items that he uses that are wearing out and that’s how fruit of the loom came to the rescue for me and my dad this father’s day.
See, my dad spends a lot of time outside in the summer and for his age, he does a lot of physical activity. He and my brother are neighbors and they have a mini farm – right now they have a few cows and a bunch of ducks but they often have chickens, bunnies, and pigs, too. That alone requires physical work, but he also takes a lot of pride in maintaining his yard so that it looks great. In the summer he often does side jobs like re-roofing or siding houses. So, he needs sleeveless shirts to try and beat the heat. For at least the past 10 years, I have watched my dad wear this one sleeveless shirt that he owns – it used to be blue but it’s almost gray now because it’s so faded. Yet, it doesn’t have holes so to him it’s not broken and so he’s going to wear it until it completely falls apart. He wears it quite often, even doing laundry just so that it can be washed in time to be re-worn if he knows he’ll be outside a lot. So it was obvious to me that he could use a few extras.
We were sent a few Fruit of The Loom BEST Men’s tanks for him to try out. Some of the colors in this line are 100% cotton while others are 90% cotton but being primarily cotton they are soft and comfortable to wear. They are just plain colored and the style is really basic too. These are great for my dad who just wants something quick, easy and comfortable. My dad is also rather frugal, which is a big part of why he isn’t one to go out and replace things that aren’t broken. Seems how these Fruit Of The Loom BEST Tanks have a suggested retail price of just $4.72 each, even frugal men won’t mind spending money on themselves. Plus, they are tag free (size and other information is printed on the inside of the tank) so no irritation to deal with. My dad mentioned that these tanks seem to be looser fitting around the bottom of the shirt than his other one which he said he thought would be nice for really hot days as he thinks it will mean the material will have move to blow about a bit instead of clinging to his skin.
The Fruit Of The Loom BEST line includes other basic shirts such as short sleeved pocket tees, V-neck tees and Crew Tees.
Ryan isn’t a father, but for years now I have bought him socks as part of his presents for his birthday, Christmas, etc. I’ve never met someone who gets holes in their socks as easily as Ryan does! I suppose the only person I really have to compare to is myself, but my socks seem to last me way longer than his last for him. After we got together, I quickly learned that cheap socks are a huge waste of money for him because they fall apart so easily. Yet, I hate to spend more than I have to. I’ve learned that Fruit Of The Loom is a great middle ground as their socks are better quality than most while being right in the middle price wise, so I think that their overall value is great. While I would never just give Ryan socks for a holiday, but I throw them in with other gifts at least once a year. It’s a great way to kind of take care of the men in your life who aren’t likely to spend money on themselves.

Quality stuff!!

That photo reminded me of my grandfather who always wore a FOTL tank top under his clothes or when working around the house and yard. I love practical gift ideas for Father’s Day, too.
