Thank you to Little Pim  for providing me with a sample copy of “Spanish – I Can Count”, free of charge, for review. These are my own honest opinions.

Little Pim

Language Learning for kids is becoming increasingly more popular. With the diverse multi-cultural world we live in, multiple language skills is a great asset to have. Since it’s known that children learn the best between six months and six years of age, Little Pim has created learning tools to teach foreign languages to this age group.

Julia Pimsleur Levine created Little Pim after being inspired by her own bilingual upbringing.  Julia was able to learn French fluently by the age of six.  She is the daughter of Dr. Paul Pimsleur, who is the creator of a very popular creator of an adult language learning program called the Pimsleur Method.

The Little Pim DVD’s use the Entertainment Immersion Method which has taken into account the latest scientific findings on children’s language learning and brain development.  Each Little Pim DVD has it’s own unique, child friendly theme.  This method teaches 360 words and phrases to provide building blocks for language learning.  Little Pim’s format includes both animated and live-action to keep kids responding.  These videos are segmented into five minute episodes to take into account a young child’s attention span.  This is perfect, in my opinion, since it’s not recommended to have children sit in front of the TV for long periods of time anyway.

Little Pim is suggested for ages 0 to 6 but our 8 year old daughter really enjoyed the Spanish I Can Count DVD we received.  She loved the fact that the words were printed on the screen so she could read what she was hearing/saying.  This way, she knew for sure what item the word or phrase stood for.  We do have three younger boys who will get to learn from this DVD as well (ages 1 through 6) but our daughter is the one who is constantly asking to learn Spanish.  We frequent a local authentic Mexican Restaurant once or twice a month and our oldest two kids are always intrigued by the owners when they speak in Spanish to each other.  The place mats have a few Spanish words with English translations so the kids practice those every time we’re there too.

Little Pim is our favorite foreign language DVD that we have seen to date.  The method used by Little Pim is the easiest for my kids to learn from and comprehend.  Our family found Little Pim to be engaging and fun to watch and learn with.  I do like that there are also Gift Sets available that include Flash Cards, DVD’s, Books, Music, and more.  You can also download companion guides in most of the languages as well.  I think it’s fun to sit with the kids, especially because you can do it for such a short time, and learn with them.  That way, we can practice what we’ve learned as a family to reinforce the words and phrases.
