Ryan doesn’t have any kids, but a perk to being with me means he gets to try out father’s day products this time of year, anyway. Seems how he is a 27 year old man, his interests align closely with tons of dad’s out there so I think he makes a great tester. Ryan has had an interest in computers, video games and movies from a young age and has turned his interest in computers into a company. In addition to his business, Ryan also fixes PC’s for our family and friends, and helps them do small tasks like programming their universal remote to updating their antivirus software or help them transfer photos from their camera to a thumb drive so they can take the photos somewhere to be printed or turned into gifts. In our social circle he is well known for his understanding of computers and other gadgets so he’s regularly called upon to help those who can’t do these types of tasks for themselves. These things end up requiring storage space. In the past, we’ve owned dozens of flash drives which are great for small tasks but it’s easy to forget which files you left on which thumb drive. Or worse, you get ready to add something to a flash drive only to find out its full so you have to remove something.

So, having a portable hard drive has helped us to move files around while staying organized and not losing track of anything. Our original portable hard drive was larger than an internal hard drive (though it was lighter)! It was portable in the sense that we could throw it into a backpack if going on a trip, but wasn’t really something you would likely carry around on a regular basis like we want to be able to do. We were recently able to check out the Seagate Slim for review.

The Seagate Slim is the world’s thinnest hard drive – it’s barely larger than the Iphone 5! It can easily slip into the pocket of a laptop bag or even a good sized jean pocket (Ryan wears loose or “relaxed” fit jeans most of the time and it fits in his jean pocket). The size of it makes it truly, truly portable. It’s about as wide as the palm of my hand and is shorter than the length of my palm to fingers. Despite being so small and thin, it doesn’t feel weak or poorly made. The only possible downside I can think of, is the cord is only about a foot and a half long. This hasn’t been a problem for us but for people used to having a longer cord it might take some getting used to.

We’ve been using the Seagate Slim for a few weeks now and we couldn’t be happier with it. If you’re like most people and tend to store your photos on social media sites like Facebook or Flickr, you can set your settings to automatically save your photos from your social media to your Seagate Slim quickly and easily. If your photos are on the external hard drive and you want to push them out to Facebook, Flickr or Youtube you can do that by selecting the appropriate social media icon.

The Seagate Slim is barely bigger than this pack of gum. And is thinner!

The Seagate Slim has 500GB of storage so the average user will have plenty of storage space for their needs. It’s done a great job of keeping up with Ryan and I would imagine that he uses it more heavily than your average person would. It would make a great gift for a Dad like Ryan, a photographer, social media lover, etc.
