I don’t get the opportunity to read many books. As a busy mom and wife, there isn’t a lot of “me time.” However, when the opportunity for me to review a book called “Lost Causes, Silent Scream” by Donna J. Thompson presented itself, I decided to make “me time.” Something about the synopsis of this story captivated me. I couldn’t wait to read it.
For my review, I received a copy of Lost Causes, Silent Scream by Donna J. Thompson.
Casey West is a young and attractive psychologist. She has just begun working in Lakeview mental hospital. Casey finds herself trying to solve a mystery. She takes her concerns to local detective Karl Larkin. Karl listens to Casey’s story but quickly lets go of it. He tells her that Lakeview has a clean record. In the twenty years that Karl has worked in Springfield, Lakeview has never had a complaint made against it. Casey returns to work but can’t shake the feeling that things at Lakeview aren’t as they seem. She confides in coworker Trudy Madison. Trudy agrees with Casey. Together the two set out on an investigation of their own. Just as things at Lakeview start to unravel, Trudy is brutally murdered. Who did it? Why?
After Trudy’s death, Casey returns to Karl. Now he takes her case seriously. She informs Karl that she is actually related to the man who runs Lakeview. Jerry Connors is her uncle. Once Jerry catches word that Karl is looking into Lakeview, he quickly uses his influential powers to shut down the investigation. Karl and Casey come up with a plan. She is going to be his eyes and ears inside Lakeview. Will Karl and Casey be able to solve the Lakeview mystery? What exactly is the mystery?
As I read the book, I began to figure out what captivated me to read it. Being falsely accused of something is a horrible feeling! I wanted/needed to see that the truth was exposed. As soon as I began reading, I was hooked.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
