We are a board-game playing family. The girls and I play several games throughout the week. We also have a designated family game night each month.
Since the girls are only 4 and 6, most of our games have Disney themes. This is fun for the girls, but can get a little tiresome for me and my husband I. This is why I was excited to find Out Of The Box games. Out Of The Box games offers party games, quick games and engaging games. While their games are still great for kids, they don’t have the fluffy themes.
For our review, Out Of The Box games sent us three games: Bug Out, 7 Ate 9 and Snake Oil.
Bug Out is a fun and active game. Players race to collect bugs by covering them with a coordinating Leaf Card. The first one to cover all their bugs wins! This is a fast paced game with each round lasting approximately 5 minutes.
Even though there is a suggested age of 5, my 4 year old did pretty well with it. What kid doesn’t love hunting for bugs and trying to beat their opponents?
7 Ate 9 combines entertainment and education, seamlessly. Players must add or subtract 1, 2 or 3 to the amount on the top card. This will determine which card they will need to play. Whoever plays all of their cards first, wins!
I chose this game for my 6 year old, even though the suggested age is 8 years and up. She is working on her math skills. I thought this would be a great way for her to practice without realizing that is what she is doing. The game was a challenge for her while still being fun. She described 7 Ate 9 as math Uno.
Snake Oil is a wild west party game. To play, one player chooses a card and becomes the customer. Other players pick two word cards. Based on the word card, they need to create a product to sell to the customer. They must convince the customer that this is a product they simply cannot live without. The player with the most customers wins!
This will be a great game to play with a large group of people. I can see us having a blast with it the next time we rent a beach house with our friends and family.
Not sure which games would be right for you? Out Of The Box has a handy “Game Finder” tool. Simply plug in the number of players, their ages and what type of game you would like, then your suggested games will show on the screen.
You can connect with Out Of The Box games on facebook and twitter.
Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.

Thanks for the game reviews. I will have to check out their game finder to figure out what would be best for us.
My kids are 5 and 3. We’re just starting to enjoy games all together 🙂
