Have you ever heard those super sweet, emotional “take me fishing” commercials? I remember them catching my attention a couple of years ago when I first saw them but at the time I didn’t know much about the Take Me Fishing organization or what they are all about. They’re about encouraging fishing and boating but also being environmentally conscious when doing so. They want you to “follow the rules” so to speak and their website has tons of great information related to fishing and boating. Want to go fishing but not sure if you need a license or what type you need? Or maybe you know you need one, but don’t know how to get one? Need to find a location where you can fish? Take Me Fishing can point you in the right direction, regardless of which state you live in. You can even print out a “coupon” for the kids as a cute way to invite dad (or mom, grandpa, etc) to go fishing.
Michigan is well known for its great lakes, but we have tons of in-state lakes as well. Having lots of lakes and being from a rural area means fishing is part of life here. I remember going fishing with my dad as early as age 5. I probably did before then, even I just don’t remember it. Fishing is a passion of my dad’s and I love how going fishing with him is a way to make memories with him regardless of how old I get. I try to take time each summer to go fishing with him at least a few times and Take Me Fishing was kind enough to send me a gift card to purchase a license and some gear so that I could go this summer. It seems like this summer has truly flown by and when you add in some vehicle repairs that needed done to our only vehicle, it really delayed things but it’s important to try to push all the “other” stuff aside and just get away and relax and make memories sometimes – and fishing does just that. For my family, fishing has turned into more than just a few memories and is somewhat of a tradition. In fact we even have a tradition inside of the tradition – we always take a photo with the smallest fish we catch just to be silly. Plus, with the average fishing license costing $15 a person, it’s a super affordable way to have a relaxing day and then you can use the license for months.
To help celebrate fishing and boating this summer, Take Me Fishing is offering a giveaway to Emily Reviews readers. It includes a Take Me Fishing hat & shirt. The shirt sizes available are XL and XXL.
