We moved a year ago now and I have to say, I have done very little to make the house ours decor-wise. It was nicely decorated and painted but it was definitely missing my personal touch. I am slowly working on adding my style to every room in the house. For the living room, I knew from the get go that I wanted to make a big statement with a wall decal. I found the perfect one on Evgie!

 Evgie offers a wide variety of customizable decals to decorate any room, to fit any style. You can choose to purchase a decal in its ‘standard’ colors or change one or all of them! They have adorable wall decals for nurseries and kids’ rooms as well as modern ones, more suited for adults. Here is a small sample of the decals you can find on Evgie. You must be wondering which wall decal I picked. I chose the beautiful Birch Trees Wall Decal. It comes with 7 super tall birch trees and 8 birds. You can customize the colors to fit your decor. I went with white birch trees and lime-tree green birds because this green is our accent color throughout the main floor.

I had applied vinyl decals before but I had never attempted large pieces such as this one so I was a little wary at first. Fortunately, there is special instructions on Evgie’s website that explain step by step how to apply large decals such as trees. It is definitely worth taking a look at those instructions before you start because it’ll save you time and headaches.

The first step, which took about 1 hour, was to cut out all the pieces. They comes on long rolls with the trunks and branches separated. Then you have to match the branches with the tree trunks (they are labelled to it’s not too difficult).

Then comes the interesting part of figuring out how you want it to look on your wall. The wall I chose has a window so I knew I wouldn’t be able to fit all the trees together as depicted on Evgie’s website. I ended up putting 5 trees on one side of the window, another one of the other side of the window and the remaining tree is on the adjacent wall.

Color Chart

Putting them in place with masking tape was by far the most time consuming part. I wanted to make sure the trees were evenly spaced and straight. I had to move them around a few times to find the perfect arrangement. Also, the trees are 100in tall but my wall isn’t because we have a decorative border along the ceiling. I had to cut the bottom of all the trees so they were the right height. I initially made an approximate cut then after the tree was in place, I made another sharper and more precise cut with a utility knife.

The next step was to use a plastic card to rub the transfer tape on the decal to make sure you can easily peel it off. Then you remove the backing paper and gently place the vinyl on the wall. If you do it slowly and use the plastic card to make sure there are no air bubbles, it is actually pretty easy. Only the widest piece gave me some difficulty and I had to peel it off and apply it again. The last step is to apply the branches and birds and peel off the backing paper.

The end result is a beautiful forest-inspired yet modern decor. It changed the room instantly and I am really happy with the way our living room looks now! What do you think?
