Thank you Radio Flyer
for providing me with a product to review, free of charge,
and for sponsoring this giveaway.
These are my own honest opinions.
A couple months ago, I was given the opportunity to review the all new Ziggle from Radio Flyer. Since my daughter was a bit too young for it, I had the son of a friend of ours test it (which he was more than happy to do!) This time though, I received a product that got my daughter so excited she couldn’t wait to try it!
Radio Flyer sent me their versatile Ride & Stand Stroll ‘N Trike. This unique trike is one of 3 products that ‘grows with your child’. In fact, babies as young as 9 months old can ride in it just as safely and comfortably as 5-year-olds. And when they are too old to ride the trike, they can still hop along and ride on the back. That’s right, 2 kids can ride on this trike at the same time!
The way it works is that the trike can be adapted to different stages:
1. When your baby is 9-18 months old, use it with the wrap around tray, the high back, and the 3-point safety harness. The tray is nice because when babies are very young, they may not be able to reach the handle bar but they’ll be able to hold onto the tray. Plus there is a cup holder and 2 small compartments that you can use for snacks or small toys. There is also a canopy which helps protect little ones from the sun. At this stage, the trike is obviously steered by parents thanks to an adjustable push handle.
2. When your child is 18-24 months old, remove the wrap around tray. At this stage, the trike is still controlled by parents but your child can hold the handle bar and begin to steer. He may be able to reach the pedals as well but if not, his feet can be on the foot rest. You can still use the safety harness at this stage.
3. When your child is 2-3 years old, you can remove the highest portion of the seat as well as the canopy. You can also fold the foot rest away. At this stage, your child should be learning how to pedal and steer but you can still help them along with the push handle.
4. When your child is 3-5 years old, you can remove the push handle and let them ride by themselves!
This trike has tons of neat features including:
- an adjustable seat: You first install the seat in the forward most position and as your child grows, you move it back. This allows your child to comfortably reach the pedals without having to stretch and without bumping their knees on the handle bar.
- a high back seat add-on: It is very important for little ones who are developing their neck and trunk muscles to have that extra support.
- two foot brakes: There is a foot brake on either side of the platform at the back of the trike. It’s easy to push and release and allows you to stop your little one from rolling away on an uneven terrain or riding on their own.
When I opened the box, my daughter had not idea what I was going to assemble for her but I think she quickly figured it out by looking the pictures on the box and she kept trying to ‘help me’ by handing me different parts. It was nice of her but it definitely slowed me down a bit so if you want some advice: hide the box and assemble it when you’re alone!
The instructions were fairly easy to follow except for a couple diagrams that I couldn’t figure out but I was able to guess based on the pictures and the steps before and after what had to be done. The pieces fit together well and despite my daughter’s ‘help’, it didn’t take too too long to assemble.
As soon as I was done, she wanted to go for a ride. I was surprised at how excited she was because I didn’t really think she knew what a trike was and what we were going to do with it but apparently she knew. I assembled it with the safety tray even though my daughter is probably ready for the second stage just to try it for the first few times.
My daughter was able to reach the handle bar but could only reach one pedal at a time. Even though she’s 21 months old, she’s not very tall. Eventually, she decided to keep her feet on the foot rest. The canopy is nice but I wish it was a little bigger to really provide good coverage. I thought the trike was very easy to steer with the push handle and I like that my husband and I can adjust it to fit our height. The tires are quiet and do a good job even on gravel paths and driveways.
Overall, I am very pleased with our Ride & Stand Stroll ‘N Trike from Radio Flyer. It’s the only 4-in-1 trike that I know of that can accommodate 2 children. It’s a great option to replace a bulky double stroller when you’re going to the park or just walking around the neighborhood. I also like all the safety features and the way it grows with your child. Every child wants to ride like a big kid and I think this allows them to feel like they are big kids while it teaches them stage by stage how to ride.
I also want to mention a very special campaign that Radio Flyer recently launched. It’s called Little Red Stories. Radio Flyer wants to hear your stories, see your pictures or videos of your Radio Flyer experiences, past or present.
