I received five Halloween books from Candlewick Press for my review. All opinions are my own.
My girls (ages 4.5 and almost 7 years old) have accumulated an extensive home library. We have a wide variety of books; they cover many age-appropriate lessons, an assortment of subjects and celebrate most holiday festivities. I say most holidays because I recently discovered we only had one book in our library that was about Halloween. This is why I was super excited when Candlewick Press reached out for a review of their Halloween books.
For our review, we received “Vampire Baby,” “Ghost In The House,” “Filbert, The Good Little Fiend,” “The Music Of Zombies” and “ Feral Nights.”
Vampire Baby takes us along as a big brother tries to convince us that his baby sister is a vampire baby. He tells us that his Vampire Baby sinks her fangs into her big brother, the furniture and her toys. He comes up with a plan to help his sister find a vampire family of her own, but then has a change of heart. Vampire Baby is suggested for ages 4-7.
Ghost In The House has readers counting their way through a haunted house. Each step of the way they uncover the spooky sounds and what creature is behind them. Who will be the final ghoul in the book? Ghost In The House is for 3-7 year olds.
Filbert, The Good Little Fiend shows us the importance of accepting ourselves for our unique qualities. Filbert doesn’t want to be a naughty Fiend like his parents wish. He wants to be a nice Fiend. One day, Filbert bumps into a rebellious Angel who has dropped out of Angel-School. Together they show us how to accept them as they are. Filbert, The Good Little Fiend is great for 3-7 year olds.
The Music Of Zombies takes us on a journey as Prince Albion plans to celebrate his kingdom and of course, himself. There is excitement and unexpected turns in the plans as others want their own spotlight. Will Prince Albion get his celebration or will there be problems in the kingdoms? The Music Of Zombies is suggested for ages 8 and up.
Feral Nights tells about Yoshi following his sister, Ruby, to Austin. Yoshi learns Ruby has been keeping secrets. Yoshi and Ruby aren’t alone; they are being followed by two more suspicious beings. Before you know it, they are all in trouble. Now it’s a fight to stay alive. Feral Nights is suggested for 14 years old and up.
Now that we have some spooky titles, the girls and I are ready for Halloween.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
