Thank you Oöm
for providing me with products to review, free of charge.
These are my own honest opinions.

Buying local, looking for greener and ethically-made products is a real passion of mine. It’s great to see that there are more and more companies that actually care about the environment and their employees. However, it is quite rare to find a company that manages to be eco-responsible and socio-responsible while designing fashion-forward products.

oom logo Oöm Ethikwear actually accomplishes this tour de force. They have managed to create an organic and ethically produced line of clothing that you actually want to wear, not just because it’s good for the earth and made in a manner that respects their employees and their rights but also because the clothes actually look (and feel) great!

Here is a small sample of Oöm Ethikwear’s beautiful Fall/Winter 2013 Collection (women, men, babies):

oom products

Oöm is a small business that designs and makes clothes in Montréal, Canada. Since their beginning in 2004, they’ve partnered with socially engaged organizations to manufacture their products. They also give back 1% of their sales to social initiatives. They use organic cotton, eco-responsible or recycled materials. Buying clothes made here instead of in Asia also means that jobs are created here and that shipping is greatly reduced, which in turn leads to a smaller carbon footprint.

Oöm’s clothes are easily identifiable thanks to a small red button sewn on all their clothes. It’s a neat way for people to recognize at a glance Oöm clothes as well as those that support them.

For this review, I received 2 tops for myself and one dress for my daughter. Please be kind as those are my first post-baby photos (1 week after baby was born)

oom girl dress

For my daughter, I receive a beautiful raspberry colored dress. It is a rich and warm color and I love it especially for Fall/Winter clothes. The dress is made of 100% GOTS certified organic cotton jersey and is super soft. It has a cute print along the bottom with houses and an owl and the saying ‘Ma jolie maison’ which means ‘My beautiful house’. There is gathering around the neckline and a ribbon that ties at the back for an adjusted fit. My daughter is quite small for her age so the dress is a little long on her but she’ll soon grow into it. With the ribbon, I can still get a good fit on her. It washes well (no noticeable shrinkage or piling) and remains soft wash after wash. My daughter seems very comfortable in this dress and the color is great on her.

oom dressI also received a convertible large collar dress in black. It is made of Micro Tencel (96% Tencel, 4% spandex). Micro Tencel is a relatively new fabric made from Forest Stewardship Council certified pulp from Eucalyptus wood. It is produced with a non-toxic solvent and doesn’t require as much dyes, water and sodium for its dyeing process. Micro Tencel has great properties: it is strong even though it’s not very thick, transfers moisture away from the body, and naturally inhibits bacteria growth. It is also a very very soft and comfortable fabric to wear.

I really like the look of this dress. It is very easy to wear with leggings and collar gives it an interesting touch. Speaking of touch, it i so soft it feels like a gentle caress on my body. I haven’t noticed any shrinkage or pilling nor any color fading after many washes. The color remains as dark and rich as if it had never been washed.

oom hoodieI also received a hoodie dress in eggplant. It is made of French Stretch Terry (94% organic cotton, 6% spandex). It is a thicker fabric than Micro Tencel and it’s perfect to keep me cozy even during cooler days. The color is also one of my favorite to wear!

The design of this dress is quite unique: it has a hoodie and 2 large buttons along the collar with extra large cuffs. I usually don’t like long sleeve hoodies because they tend to be bulky and the sleeves are always too long but it is not the case with this one. Because it is made of stretchy fabric, the fit and comfort are unbeatable. I like to wear it when we go for walk or spend time outside when the weather is a bit chilly but not so much that I need a warm jacket. It performs very well in the wash and it’s always the first top I look for after I do the laundry. I like it so much I think I’ll splurge and get the black one too!

Overall, I can’t say enough about Oöm Ethikwear’s clothes. I really like the urban and trendy look of their collections and of course, the fact that their products are eco-friendly and socio-responsibly made makes me want to support them even more. It’s quite rare to see a company as dedicated to create a better future and to make fashion an ethical endeavor!
