Thank you Rockin’ Baby
for providing me with a product to review, free of charge.
These are my own honest opinions.
Babywearing has been part of my life since my first daughter was born. Now that she is a toddler, she doesn’t want to be carried as much because she is a ‘big girl’ now but with Baby #2, I have the chance to babywear again!
I am already familiar with a few types of carriers but I had never tried a sling. Many people told me I should give them a try because they are so easy to use. I looked around for slings and came across Rockin’ Baby, a sling company with a great social mission.
Rockin’ Baby offers slings and pouches that are 100% made in the United States. They come in many different colors and prints and some of them are reversible so you get 2 great looks instead of one. Who doesn’t like to coordinate their sling with their outfit?
Rockin’ Baby is a mother-to-mother company which means that for every sling or pouch purchased, they will donate a new sling to a mother in need in Haiti. They will also educate her on the importance of babywearing: it will allow the mother to nurture her baby, bond and breastfeed, as well as carry on with her daily tasks of gathering food and water, etc. Rockin’ Baby decided to work specifically with women in Haiti because it is the country with the highest mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere and babywearing can help change these sad statistics.
For this review, I received an Orange Hero Sling. It’s the signature orange color from their logo and the 2 rings are red. It’s very bold and probably a little out there for me but I still like it. It is the same sling that is given to women in Haiti. The sling is made of 100% cotton and is very comfortable to wear. I like that it’s not stretchy so it’s easy to keep my baby close to me by adjusting the rails. There is also a convenient zippered pouch at the bottom of the tail to carry wipes, a burp cloth, an extra diaper or other small items.
The sling comes with an instruction booklet to explain how to install and adjust the sling. It shows a few different ways to carry your baby with pictures to demonstrate each one. The instructions are easy to follow. I find it a little difficult to keep baby in an upright position (snuggle hold). Since she has very little head and spine control, she tends to slide to the side so I usually keep her in a cradle position.
What I like most about the sling is that it makes it very easy to keep baby with me at all times during that critical 4th trimester. When I hold her or carry her, she sleeps better and is much more content. I can just put her in the sling, free my hands and carry on with my chores while keeping an eye on her. It’s also great for breastfeeding and when we are out and about.

I loved wearing my babies!! The mei tai was my favorite carrier 🙂
I love that they will donate a sling to a mom in Haiti.

I tried using a wrap with my baby – but it was just too hot. I will have to keep this one in mind for baby #2

I used a wrap with my baby, and I would highly recommend either the wrap or a sling like this one. It makes everything so much more convenient!

I love the fabric designs. My kids hated slings – sadly! Although I may have been just doing it wrong.
