When it comes to getting gifts for Ryan, I find myself trying to find a blend of practical and something he wants and likes. Most of the time, he doesn’t really even want things that aren’t practical so he tells me something simple like boots or a coat and I make it my mission to find the product that will meet all of his needs and satisfy by his and my tastes. I think that’s exactly what I’ve found this year in Lugz 6″ Drifter Boots.

Here in Michigan we have snow on the ground most of the winter (and part of the fall and spring, too) so the cheap tennis shoes that Ryan usually buys don’t quite cut it. Yet, we rarely spend time just out standing knee deep in snow so he didn’t necessarily want snow boots. He just wanted boots that would keep his feet warm for quick trips out to get groceries, shovel snow or occasionally spend an hour or so outside in the snow.

The Lugz 6″ Drifter boots are a great everyday boot because they have a lot of support in the bottom that makes them comfortable to stand on for long periods. They’re lightweight for boots so they don’t feel heavy when walking. They’re 7 inches in height to help keep the snow out and the bottoms have thick grooves that provide traction which is much needed here in the winter because of snow and ice.

If you have wide feet, you might want to try these on in person before trying. The material is very stiff compared to tennis shoes. While Ryan’s feet aren’t wide enough to require him to buy shoes labeled as wide, they usually curve over the edge a little on tennis shoes. These boots don’t have enough “give” to allow his feet to spill over the sole so he’s very aware of the stiffness of the sides of the boots even though they fit. However, I think that if his feet were any wider at all they wouldn’t fit.

The first time that Ryan wore these, our dogs went outside with him and managed to find some mud, and while heading back into the house stepped on his boot and left a muddy pawprint on top. He tried to wash them off with a wet washcloth but the muddy pawprint appeared stained still. Yet, once they dried they were back to looking really clean. This has since happened a couple of more times. They go back to being clean they just appear stained until completely dry.
