I received two board games from Out of the Box for this review. All opinions are my own.
Out of the Box is a company that started in the late 1990’s and has quickly become one of the leading American game companies. Their goal is to develop, produce and distribute games that can be learned easily in just a few minutes, completed within an hour, that are exciting and fun, and that are colorfully made and illustrated. Sounds like a winning combination to me as an adult so you can imagine how great this is for children since their attention span is usually shorter than an adult’s.
Out of the Box produces games that are considered party games, as well as games that are quick and quiet. These games have many educational qualities and benefits including language and visual arts, hand-eye coordination, interpersonal skills, patterning, math, geography, and more. With all of this to offer, I think Out Of The Box Games are great gift ideas for boys and girls….well, adults too.
For our review, we received two games: Word on the Street Junior (one of their top sellers) and 10 Days in the USA (also one of their top sellers). Both games are geared toward players who are around 8 years or older.
Word on the Street Junior is a board game that comes with 108 cards, a game board, a card tray, 26 letter tiles, and a timer. It takes about 5 minutes to learn and each game can be completed in 20 to 30 minutes by 2 to 8 players. Players learn strategy as well as language arts.
10 Days in the USA comes with 66 tiles (some are destination tiles and others are modes of transportation), tile holders, a game board and rules. 10 Days in the USA can accommodate 2 to 4 players and takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete a game. This game not only teaches strategy but also geography of the United States.
I love games that are not just fun to play but also educational at the same time. Lots of games teach children math, reading, and some of the more fundamental lessons we all need to learn but not all of them teach interpersonal skills such as teamwork. I feel this is extremely important because interpersonal skills are imperative whether they are applied to family life, getting along with classmates and/or future relationships in a work atmosphere.
Both of these games are big hits with the adults in our family and ask the kids get older, I’m sure they will enjoy them equally as much.
I think Out of the Box games make great holiday gifts.

SIX lucky winners are going to receive the Snake Oil game from Out of the Box (as seen in the above photo). This is a US giveaway and it will end on 11/20/2013. Good Luck!
Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
