*I was provided with Block Crayon products in return for this post. All opinions are my own.

As an art lover myself, I love introducing the kids in my life to art as early as possible. Traditional crayons can be hard for young toddlers to grasp and easy for them to break. Block Crayons are thick, chunky crayons that are perfect for little hands because of their chunky shape makes them easy to grasp and their thickness makes them harder to break.

In addition to being a great size and shape for toddlers, they also stack onto each other like blocks, adding a second way to play with them and increasing their play value. I was sent a few products to try out. The first is just a 12 pack of the Block Crayons which is great to get you started. Most of us have coloring books or paper around that they can be used with and 12 crayons is a great number for introducing several colors as well. The block crayons are suggested for 18 months plus but as long as I was able to use them during one on one time, where my whole focus was the baby – I’d be fine using them closer to 12 months. By then, babies can grab ahold of them and scribble on paper and as long as I am right there to prevent them from being eaten, I think they’d be fine to use.

The second item that I was sent is the Block Crayon Color And Stow barn. This is a barn shaped case that has a roll of coloring paper inside and includes 10 block crayons. The top of the block has nubs that allow the crayons to be stacked on top of it. The crayons in this set have little farm animals and other farm-related designs carved into the sides and the coloring paper has farm related designs on it. The designs are perfect for these crayons because there aren’t fine details or lines that would be hard to color with the thick crayons. This set can be great for toddler development in several ways. By grasping the crayons or stacking them, toddlers get fine motor skill practice. If a grown up around them assists them, it can also open a dialog about colors and animals!

The third item that I was sent is theĀ  Knight and Dragon Coloring Book. This is a small book that has pictures of dragons and/or knights on each page. Like the coloring paper from the barn, the designs in the book don’t include fine lines so they are easier to color with the thick crayons. The set includes 5 crayons that come in a plastic piece that fits inside the book. One of the crayons is a knight and the other is a dragon! This set is a great size to throw in a purse or diaper bag for use in the car, at a restaurant or in a waiting room.

I was really pleased with the quality of all three Block Crayon items and feel they are priced nicely on Amazon. The 24 pack of crayons is $9.97, the Barn is $17.29 and the Knights & Dragon coloring book is $11.99. They make nice affordable gift ideas for the 1-4 (or so) age group.

Win it: A 12 pack of block crayons, the block crayon barn & the block crayon dragons & knights coloring book.
