*I was provided with DS or 3DS copies of the games mentioned in this post. All opinions are my own.
Having 6 nephews ages 3-9 means I stay a bit more updated about new toys and games for kids than most other people my age without children would. A few of my nephews are really into LEGO Chima sets. They’re age the age where the really detailed LEGO sets are fun but too basic can get boring. LEGO Chima sets are based in a really cool, exiting looking fantasy world that gets their imaginations going while building. Just back in September, they put out LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey
for DS and 3DS and I knew my nephew Isaac who is almost 10 would love this game. It’s rated E10 but Isaac is only a couple of months shy of 10 and his mom was okay with him testing it out. The game includes over 60 characters that can be unlocked and is a neat adventure game. Isaac said that he really liked the game which he expected because some of his other favorite DS games are Lego themed. When I asked what his favorite part was, he said he likes the story and knocking down walls. I asked if playing the game gave him more insight to the world of Chima so that he has more ideas for playing with his LEGO Chima sets and he said yes.
I was also sent the Hot Wheels World’s Best Driver game for 3DS. I don’t know any kids with a 3DS so we couldn’t test this one but I know my nephews would like it if they could play it. The game is set up to look like hot wheels cars racing on hot wheels tracks and includes several different cool cars and includes challenges like obstical courses. If you don’t have 3DS, this game is also available for PS3, Wii U & XBOX 360.
Another “hot” game for Christmas is the LEGO Friends game for 3DS. Again, I couldn’t test this one because we don’t have a 3DS system but my 10 year old sister likes the LEGO Friends sets so this would be fun for her if she had the system. She likes setting up online games by designing characters outfits, hair, etc and then doesn’t actually play the game most of the time. LEGO friends lets you design your character including selecting accessories and a pet for them. Then, you an go on adventures with friends to explore interests like soccer, dance or karate. You can train your pet to do tricks and pets have personalities that can help you on adventures. Similar to the LEGO chima game, this game gives kids an idea of what the LEGO friends characters are like so it can give them new ideas for playing with their lego toys, too. It’s a fun way to grow the imagination and extend the amount of play that the sets get. In February this game will be available for the traditional DS as well.

I think my oldest would love the Hot Wheels game. He isn’t quite old enough just yet though. Maybe next year.

I’ve heard great things about the first two of those games. I’m not as up on the Lego Friends but maybe its because I only have boys. I do know that Lego makes great video games though.
Good suggestions, I will have to hint around to see if these are a few of the games the kids are asking for. I think a few of the boys would like the Hot Wheels World’s Best Driver for their Xbox 360. I like playing the driving games with them.
