HGGimage2013(1)Thank you Nuna
for providing me with products to review, free of charge.
These are my own honest opinions.

For those of you who haven’t read my latest posts, we welcomed our second daughter almost 2 months ago. As a second-time mom, I didn’t feel the urge to go and get tons of baby stuff. I know there are many products out there that are supposed to be essentials but that we really didn’t feel we needed, even for our first daughter. I decided to wait and see until she was born to determine what we might be missing.

nuna logoTurns out when you have a toddler and a baby, they both compete for attention in a way that makes it almost impossible to get a bathroom break, let alone take a shower…  Our oldest daughter, even though she’s only 2, doesn’t nap anymore but obviously, baby sleeps throughout the day. During the first few weeks, it felt like I spent most of my time going up and down the stairs, either to bring baby to our bed or to bring her back to the  living room to nurse to be with my eldest. Often times, as I was about to put baby to sleep, I could hear my oldest cry or scream for me.

Enters the Sena Mini by Nuna!

This play yard is one of the newest products that Nuna offers. Many parents or parents-to-be are probably familiar with the very popular Leaf. Actually, Nuna offers many great baby products including stollers and high chairs. Their products are well known for their modern and intuitive design and the Sena Mini is no exception.

The Sena Mini is a small version of the Sena so it’s great for travel and for small spaces. It measures 26.4” high x 34.7” wide x 24.8” deep and weighs just under 20lbs. It is available in Navy and Safari (beige color). It is recommended for newborns to 18-month-olds (the Sena is good for kids up to 3 years old).

Since it arrived, our beautiful Sena Mini has been extensively for naps. I have to say I am very impressed with the design and the look of it. First of all, it comes with a bassinet for young babies. I know, it’s not the only play yard that has a bassinet but this one can actually be folded with the bassinet in place which is a great feature! No need to remove the bassinet, carry it separately, then put it back when baby is ready for a nap. The bassinet safely attaches to the play yard with 4 buckles, one in each corner.

The second great feature is that it folds in a couple seconds with just one hand. All you have to do is remove the foldable quilted mattress and pull the red strap. When the bassinet is in place, there is a small opening in the center through which you can slide your hand to reach the strap. The middle of the play yard will rise and the aluminum frame will easily fold on itself into a compact rectangular shape. I should also mention that the Sena Mini comes with a travel bag so it’s very easy to transport.

nuna sena 2The fabrics used are all Oeko-Tex certified which means they have been extensively tested and found free of harmful substances which is also an important advantage since babies are likely to spend many hours in their play yard until they outgrow it. The mattress is covered in a soft cushy fabric. The sides are made of slightly stretchy mesh and the frame around the top of the play yard is padded. The feet are wide and skid-proof so the play yard is very stable.

What I like the most about this play yard is that it is very easy to set up and fold. This is important for us as we will be bringing it when we visit our family. I also really like the bassinet because even though it is a compact play yard (it reaches my mid-thigh in height), it would be awkward to have to lower a baby all the way to the bottom. The compact design is also perfect for us since we don’t have that much room in our living room but we found a little space near the staircase that is perfect for it!

Overall, I have to say this product surprised me both in terms of functionality and design. I can’t find anything negative to say about it except that I wish there was a way to attach our mobile on it with the bassinet in place but it’s tricky with the padded edged and the mesh all around. It’s obviously not a flaw in the product itself and we actually found a way around it so it’s not really an issue. I really love how convenient it is to have my baby nearby when she sleeps while being able to play with my oldest daughter or do some chores. I know she is comfortable and safe in her Sena Mini and just a few steps away from me so I can be there when she wakes up (she has the most adorable yarn and smile when she wakes up and I don’t want to miss it!)
