We just moved last week and I didn’t change my address early enough so the BarkBox went to our old address so we got it a bit later than usual but we got it and have had time to check it out. We subscribe for the small dog sized box which is suggested for dogs 20lbs and under.
Overall I was happy with our box again this month (you can see my December Bark Box post for last months info). It included two treats, two toys and a chew this month. My dogs are picky about toys but pretty accepting of treats and chews.
The first toy is a Harry Barker cotton rope toy. It is a knotted rope ball that has a loop on it. We were sent a size small but this company offers the toy in medium and large sizes also. The knotted ball is too big for my dogs to get into their mouth fully which is ideal for safety but causes them to be intimidated by it, I think. As I mentioned, they are really picky about toys so it’s nothing personal about the toy. It’s machine washable and is made from earth friendly dyes. It retails for $6.
The second toy is an orange treat dispensing toy called a Pocket Bone – it’s made by the Wigzi company. Each end has an opening that you can place treats in to make your dog try to get them out. It comes in three sizes, ours is a small ($7.99). It’s super bendable and doesn’t have a strong rubber smell like you’d expect. My dogs are so funny about toys – they aren’t interested in any “fake bone” type chews so with treat dispensing toys like this, they only lick them or roll them around with their paws – they won’t bite or chew them at all so if I put a treat compeltely inside of the pocket they wont’ try to get it out – I have to leave the treat sticking at least half out so they can grab it but then of course it’s not a challenge. So again, this wasn’t a great fit for us but I blame my dogs, its a fine choice by BarkBox.
The chew that we got was a junior bully from Barkbox. We got one of these last month, too and I mentioned that my dogs loved it. We’ve had Barkworthies brand chews a few times now and they just go nuts for them even compared ot other bully sticks. Beans ran off with the bully before I even got a picture of it this month. This retails for $2.62. I got an email a couple of days ago from Barkbox apologizing because I “should” have been sent an Etta Says chew instead (as that’s what the postcard in the box said was in my box) but we were quite happy abut the mix up because we greatly prefer bully’s over etta says because etta says only lasted my dogs about 2 minutes when we’ve had those before.
I was excited to get Louisiana Alligator Jerky from Think! Dog brand. I’ve heard great things about this brand from pet lovers online but we hadn’t tried anything from their line before. My dogs go CRAZY for these treats. They’re a perfect size for my little dogs and they are wheat, corn, soy and don’t have anything artificial in them. They are kinda stinky but it’s not so bad that it bothers me. The bag we got is 6oz which is currently selling for $8.74 on Amazon.
I was also excited to get a box of Barksters Sweet Potato & Beef Krisps from the Loving Pets brand because this is another brand that I’ve heard good things about but hadn’t tried with my pups yet. These treats are really unique in consistency compared to any other treat that my dogs have tried so far. They look sort of like bite sized pieces of chicken strips but they are very lightweight – almost “airy” but yet crunchy/crispy and they break in half really easily. Each treat is roughly 12 calories. They are 100% made in the USA and are wheat, additive, preservative and gluten free. I wish that the box was resealable, though. These are selling for $8.49 on Amazon.
That brings the total value to $33.57 if I were to buy these things online. Of course, they would be cheaper to but I’m pleased with the value of the box overall. We’ve really been enjoying these subscription boxes and I’m excited to see what’s in next month’s box. You can sign up for BarkBox for as low as $19 a month (with a 6 month subscription). If you use my link you’ll save $5 off your order and shipping is always free.

My dog is the same way. He is super picky about toys and wont chew on any type of fake bone. He is probably just spoiled though because he knows ill give him a real one 🙂

First of all I love that you have a pug baby, anyway we got barkbox this month but instead of the bone you put the treats in we got a small teddybear. Our pug Kira didn’t care about the toys she went right to the box and tried to pull out the treats with her paw and her teeth. She loved the gator jerky, and I’m not sure if she’s tried the sweet potato crisps yet.
