Growing up, my mom always included me and my siblings in Valentine’s day celebrations. Some say that Valentine’s day is mostly an excuse to celebrate but what’s wrong with that if everyone enjoys it, right? The downside of trying to buy Valentine’s day gifts for kids is it can be hard to find quality items at a reasonable price. Most stores are littered with red and pink trinkets that are cute but aren’t that cheap but quickly fall apart. When I heard that Playmobil has toy sets starting at $4.99, I thought they were a genius Valentine’s day gift guide. They’re super affordable so you aren’t breaking the bank but they’re high quality toys that will really get play time for weeks to come.

As a kid, I loved how incredibly detailed Playmobil brand toys were and how even the tiniest of pieces are functional. In the sets that I was sent for this review, I was excited to find that that hasn’t changed.

The first set that I got was “Girl with Pony” which is a playmobil doll and pony that also includes a pail with various grooming tools for the pony, a leaf, and a pitchfork with pan. The grooming tools snap into the dolls hand so she can really hold them and the pail fits in her hand also. The horse is perfectly sized so that the doll can sit atop her pony to ride it. While this set is simple, I love how functional it is and how it allows for open ended pretend play. It has a suggested retail price of just $4.99.

Another $4.99 set that I was sent is called “Waitress with Cash Register“. This includes a doll that has a concession stand or restaurant style uniform on (with removable apron) a serving tray, ice cream bowl and ice cream, a restaurant lunch sack, cash register and counter. This set comes with a pack of stickers that add tons of detail to the set including a number display for hte front and back screens of the cash register. The cash register drawer really opens and the tray fits perfectly into the dolls hands. This set could be used to play restaurant, concession stand or just a regular cashier. Tons of options for such an affordable set!

The third set is called “Flower Fairy with Unicorn Sun Beam“. This set came in a really neat resealable pouch for storage. It includes a fairy with a tutu and wings, a tree with tiny flower petals to decorate it with, a unicorn with a bridle that can also be decorated with the flower petals and bows, a basket, a rose and a stand. My kid sister likes fairies and I knew that my little nephew would consider it a horse and enjoy that aspect of it. My sister will love how she can decorate and re-decorate the tree with the petals as many times as she wants to. I didn’t realize that the unicorn’s horn would be removable though so I was excited for that as it really can become a regular horse. The doll and unicorn are sized so that the fairy can ride the unicorn. The basket and rose stem fit perfectly in the fairies hand so she can really carry them. This set has a suggested price of $13.99.
