I’ve recently tested out three stands intended to be used with laptops and my ultimate favorite for using with my laptop has been the Tech Stand from Calico Designs.
The Tech Stand takes a little bit of assembly but it wasn’t hard at all. The tech stand is a really simple, basic stand that doesn’t take up much space at all. It’s basically a pole with an arm and surface on it, so it is great for those looking to make the most of a dorm or apartment. I love being able to push it out of the way when it’s not in use. The arm has an adjustable height and the surface can be rotated from flat (like a table) to angled. The surface is flat other than a small strip (pencil ledge) that runs along the outer edge of the surface that will hold your laptop (or pencil, etc) in place while the stand is angled. The ability to adjust the height and angle of the service provides you the freedom to use the stand as a desk to write on, do homework on, or use as a TV tray as well as the ability to use it as a laptop stand while sitting, laying, kneeling, etc.
Instead of being on wheels, the legs of the stand are just two angled feet that are less than an inch high. The arm that holds the surface doesn’t swivel on the pole so you can’t “swing it” out of the way but I just push or pull it several times a day. The stand is very lightweight so it is still very easy to move around, and it has caps on the end of the feet to prevent it from damaging your floor. I have laminate flooring in my living room (where I use the stand most of the time) and despite pushing, pulling and dragging this stand every day for over a month now, I haven’t seen any scratching or other problems from it on my floor. The feet of the stand easily slip under the edge of my couch so I can pull the stand all the way back to me so I can sit upright with my back against the couch. I can also use it on the end of my couch as a side table that I can pull over top of the arm of my couch.
The surface measures 19 inches by 13.25 inches. My laptop measures 14.5 inches wide so it’s the perfect size for me to use with my laptop and have room for my camera or a drink next to it. The surface height can be adjusted from 21.25 inches up to 32.25 inches. My couch is lower and I can adjust it low enough that I can lay on the couch and use the stand or use it as a TV tray, or as an upright desk from various couches. Regardless of which chair in my home I want to use my laptop from, I’m always able to adjust the stand to a comfortable height and angle for it.
Sometimes the surface does feel a bit unstable so I find myself tightening the angle adjustment for the stand to make it more stable. I haven’t really decided if the stand just gets loosened over time or if I don’t always get it tight enough to start with. Making the surface a bit more sturdy would be the only improvement I can think of for this stand, but it’s not really a problem for me how it is. So far, I have been able to use it for everything I have even thought about trying to use it for, and have always been able to get it to a comfortable adjustment.
Overall I have really enjoyed this stand, it accommodates my needs for a laptop stand and is really convenient for me. Prior to getting it, I was using a lap desk for my laptop and I would get aches in my back from bending over. This stand allows me to change my position so that I don’t get stiff from being in one spot, and I can sit upright with better posture which helps as well. As a blogger I spend a lot of time online so being able to change my position is really beneficial.

I have looked at alot on Amazon and really couldnt find one that adjusts so I can use it everywhere I end up working, lol.
