My husband and I have four young children ages 20 months through (almost) 9 years. Not only do we dairy farm but I also homeschool the kids. Because of our lifestyle, we are home practically all the time. This means that we are often in the kitchen cooking and baking. We are even on double time in the Spring and Fall when we have extra mouths to feed during field work time. The kids and I love to provide meals and snacks to the many helpers coming and going throughout the day that are helping with plowing, planting, harvesting, emptying the pit, or even construction around the farm. As the kids grow, our family will be able to handle more of the work ourselves, but for now, we rely on some hired help during the really busy times.
Since we’re in the kitchen a lot, I love finding fun useful kitchen tools to make our experiences more pleasant. Growing up, I recall on more than one occasion breaking a spoon or spatula off in a bowl of mix. It’s quite frustrating when using inferior tools. So when I came across Kuhn Rikon and saw the large variety of kitchen cookware, tools, cutlery, and bakeware they offered, I was excited to give them a try.
The Dual Edge Slicer in Polka Dot is available on Amazon. It is a stainless steel server that doubles as a knife. The “blade” measures in at 4 1/2 inches by about 2 1/2 inches and we have found it to be perfect for cutting and serving Lasagna, Tator Tot Hotdish, Enchiladas, and even desserts such as Cakes and Bars.
The Dual Edge Server has serrated edges on two sides for easier cutting. This tool is fairly sharp, though, so I do not let our kids use it. I also suggest using glass bakeware because the sharp edges could scuff, scrape, and gouge Teflon/non-stick type products. Since I prefer glass, this is no problem for us. I really like the fact that Kuhn Rikon provided the sheath cover for the Dual Edge Server. I keep most of my kitchen tools in a drawer and the sheath provides protection from anyone cutting themselves while digging for a tool.
My favorite part of this tool is the design. The eye-catching polka-dot design makes a fun statement while looking sleek. Most of my kitchen products are plain and kind of boring so this pop of color and style really brightens our table when we use it. While this tool is dishwasher safe, I prefer to hand wash. I don’t like to put sharp tools and knifes in the dishwasher since the job of emptying the dishwasher and putting dishes away belongs to our children.
Overall, I can’t think of anything I would change about this tool. We like the design and the performance is outstanding as well.
