With two young active daughters, I am always looking for “quick” foods. I look for ingredients that have nutritional value, can be prepared easily, and will appeal to their young taste buds. We recently had the opportunity to try Oroweat Sandwich Thins, Thomas Mini Bagels and Oroweat Pocket Thins.
Oroweat Sandwich Thins, Thomas Mini Bagels and Oroweat Pocket Thins are free of high fructose corn syrup, trans fat and cholesterol. They are all great sources of whole grains, fiber and protein. They have also been rated by Weight Watches and display their point values.
We decided to use the Oroweat Sandwich Thins to make personal pizzas one night after a late sports event. I set out our favorite marinara sauce, turkey pepperoni slices and shredded mozzarella cheese. We each built our own personal pizzas and then toasted them in the oven on 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. They were a fun and delicious entrée to go with a healthy side salad. The only thing I would change about our recipe is to toast one side of the bread first, flip sides and then add your toppings. This would provide for a crispier crust. These mini pizzas can be made with any toppings- vegetarian, vegan, meat lovers, even dessert with s’mores toppings.
Our school mornings always seem rushed. Getting a healthy meal in the girls before school can be a challenge. This week, I toasted a few Thomas Mini Bagels and topped them with a mixed fruit cream cheese spread. The bagels were the perfect size for the girls’ little hands and smaller stomachs. The combination of the chewy bagel and the creamy whipped fruit topping was perfect. I used a store bought mixed fruit cream cheese but you could easily make your own. We have Thomas Mini Bagels on our grocery list; they were a hit with my girls.
Oroweat Pocket Thins are a great way to construct sandwiches…especially for kids. The pocket bread allows them to securely fill the sandwich with their favorite fixings. My youngest and I made ham and cheese sandwiches. With the pocket bread, all of her sandwich goodies stayed contained whereas when she eats a sandwich made with sliced bread, all the good stuff falls out. I also noticed she ate the entire sandwich; normally she won’t east bread crust.
All three of these products can be used in a number of ways! I chose these three recipes because they allowed my daughters to be involved in the kitchen. When my daughters help prepare a meal, they seem to enjoy eating it more than when someone else has prepares it.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
