Growing up, we only saw my dads side of the family a couple times a year at most.  The one time that we were guaranteed to gather with that side of the family, though, was on Christmas Day.  I would look forward to this day in anticipation for multiple reasons.  The first being that we would go to my Aunt Irma and Uncle Jack’s house which also doubled as their tavern/gas station/garage.  As a child, it always felt so neat walking through the front door of the tavern and into the big open space where the family was all hanging out, talking, and the aroma of lunch was in the air.  Plus, climbing up on those bar stools and sitting next to the bar while we played always made me feel so grown up.  Being that this particular Uncle was also my Godfather, I always felt a special connection to them and and the fact that my Aunt and I shared a love for reading only deepened that bond.  But the best part of our Christmas celebration, in my opinion as a child, was my Aunt’s dessert.  Each year, she would serve up fancy glasses of Grasshoppers to everyone.  To this day, that is still my absolute favorite ice cream treat.

A couple years ago, I decided to recreate the magic I felt at Christmas and serve this delicious ice cream treat to my family.  So I jumped online and googled recipes for Grasshoppers.  Much to our dismay, every single recipe we tried tasted awful.  (I’m still not sure what I did wrong.)  It finally dawned on me just recently to call my Aunt and request her recipe.  She gladly shared it and we chatted for a bit and caught up since we hadn’t seen each other since December.

I am still amazed at how simple this recipe is!  Just three ingredients and a stir of love.

Aunt Irma’s Grasshopper Recipe:

~5 Quarts of Vanilla Ice Cream
~Creme de Menthe
~Creme de Cocoa

Let the ice cream soften till it’s easy enough to stir.  Start by adding 2/3 cup Creme de Menthe and 2/3 cup Creme de Cocoa and mix well.  Taste and continue to add equal parts of Creme de Menthe and Creme de Cocoa until desired taste is acquired.  Serve immediately in a chilled glass or put back in freezer.  (Keep in mind that a non-alcoholic version will freeze solid again so it will need to be taken out ahead of time to soften before serving.)

The Ozeri Double Wall Insulated Beverage Glasses are heat and shatter resistant and give these Grasshoppers the perfect touch when serving.  The sleek design is ascetically pleasing and everyone compliments these glasses.  I love that the double wall allows the contents to be suspended in the inner wall and keeps the glass free of condensation with cold liquids/contents and allows the glass to be held easily when filled with hot contents.  The Double Wall Insulated Beverage Glasses are dishwasher, freezer, and microwave safe.

The first thing my husband commented on was how his hand didn’t get cold while holding his Grasshopper treat.  I also like the fact that body heat also won’t affect the contents of the Ozeri Double Wall Glasses like an ordinary glass would.  Overall, the style and design is great and the glasses are lightweight as well.  I would love to fill my entire cupboard with these glasses!
