Summer is almost here and school will be out soon. While the kids look forward to this break, many parents struggle to find ways to continue education through the Summer months. We homeschool and do a much more relaxed schedule during the Summer months so we don’t have to relearn everything come Fall again but I still like to incorporate fun games and field trips into our Summer schedule. I recently learned about a new line of product from Lakeshore Learning. It’s their “Are You Ready?” Game Show line geared to help Kindergardeners through 5th Graders.
I was sent the Are You Ready For 3rd Grade? version for this review. Our oldest two kids are 9 and almost 7 and will be heading into 3rd grade and 4th grade respectively so I thought this would be a great game to be able to use for both the older kids and the younger ones will be able to use it as they get older.
Lakeshore Learning has designed this “board” game to be a fun interactive Game Show. The kids become contestants and get to choose questions. If they answer correctly, they earn play money and reward certificates/coupons where you can offer the reward of your choosing for them. The game board is easy to set up and there are 240 playing cards to keep the game fresh and fun. Also included is the game stand, tray for discards, play money, and score tracker.
Our 3 1/2 year old wanted to join in so we included him and he was able to answer some of the easier questions. I also offered the older two kids “bonus bucks” if their little brother needed help and they could provide him a “life line.” It was awesome to see the three kids working together and cheering each other on as we progressed through our first stack of playing cards.
The kids had a lot of fun and our game lasted a good 30 minutes before we finished round one and called it a day. We have been having great experiences with this game because nobody even worries about who has the most money. They are all wrapped in the excitement of the “game show feeling” that everyone is happy for all the contestants.
Lakeshore Learning also offers an online assessment to keep track of your child’s progress. You just need to enter their results online and they will then provide free printouts to help in the areas of need. We have had a blast with this game and I like being able to add Summer learning in a new and fun way.
