I received products from eCarpetGallery.com, BeddingStyle.com and Air Wick for my review. All opinions are my own.

I have been working on giving our master bedroom a new look and feel. I was tired of our bedroom being the laundry sorting area, paper storage area, and a dark gloomy bedroom. The clutter and dark colors were depressing and energy draining.

I wanted a room where my husband and I could relax and reconnect with one another. I needed a refreshed color palate. I hoped for a look that not only appealed to us but also was attractive to potential house buyers.

I knew we were ready for an update but hadn’t felt inspired enough to begin. Then my mom gave me a throw blanket for a gift. That was it! The throw blanket had colors that I loved, but hadn’t thought about combining or using in our bedroom. Now I was ready to begin.

I decided to break down the makeover into 5 steps: window treatments, bedding, upholstery, floor accessories and smell.

I wanted light and airy curtains. I didn’t want any of our natural light to be blocked. I needed a light color with simple or little pattern to coordinate with our beige walls. (Remember we are trying to sell our house.) I found the Heritage Landing Solid Ivory curtains at BeddingStyle.com and thought they would be perfect.

Next, I was looking for bedding in the colors from the throw blanket. I searched for gray/silver comforters and found the Candice Olson Ventura Maze Duverlet and Shams. Next on my search were the sheets; I was hoping for sheets in the radiant orchid color family. I stumbled upon the Perry Ellis Solid Plum sheet set. The plum color complimented the throw blanket and duverlet nicely. To finalize my bedding, I went in search of a throw pillow. Since I liked Candice Olson’s design style, I searched the products she had available. I found her Enchanted decorative pill. It was the piece to tie my bedding set together.  I found all of my bedding at BeddingStyle.com.

About 16 years ago, I inherited a cedar chest from my Grandma. When I received it, it had bright orange upholstery. As soon as it was mine, I recovered it with a green floral fabric. Yuck! The cedar chest was screaming help me! This piece is really important to me. I decided it needed to make more of a statement in our bedroom.  I decided to recover it in black vegan leather (pleather). I think it looks much better. Now this is a nice place to sit.

On to the floor. We have cookie cutter contractors beige carpeting. It has been through two dogs, two babies and my husband’s logging career. It has seen better days. I wanted an area rug that would help camouflage the wear and tear on our carpeting. I needed something in a lighter color palate to coordinate with the curtains and walls. I found the Prestige Beige, Gray, White Shag area rug. The Prestige area rug has a nice soft weave. I think the rose pattern adds a sweet romantic feel to the room. I found the Prestige area rug at eCarpetGallery.com.

Smell is a huge part of my mood. I want my bedroom to smell like a relaxing oasis. I don’t want it to smell like a bottle of tanning lotion or of old lady’s over-powering floral perfume. I want it to be a light but noticeable scent. The Air Wick Freshmatic is perfect for my needs. It automatically sprays fragrances throughout the day so our room constantly smells nice. I currently have the Vanilla Indulgence scent in my Air Wick Freshmatic.

Well, that is what I have done so far to update my master bedroom. I am considering adding new lighting, wall décor and once the house sells, we will be purchasing new furniture.

This room looks so bright and natural. I’m surprised how different a room can look with simple changes, I think we need curtains that allow more light since our room gets so dark.

I love neutral colors like this so you can colorize with a few accents. It’s easier to relax with less busy colors and patterns. I wish I felt comfortable hanging things on the wall like this. I live in earthquake country and have had a few things fall so I don’t chance it!
