I received product from Skinny & Co Coconut Oil for this post. All opinions are my own.
We’ve all heard of the benefits of coconut oil by now, and it’s all the rage as oil to use for cooking purposes. However, coconut oil has so many other uses! Here are 10 unusual uses for coconut oil.
Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is an ancient technique for reducing bacteria and plaque in your mouth, and improving overall oral health and hygiene using oil and is a new health trend. The most popular oil to use is coconut oil. All you have to do is take 1-2 teaspoons of coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth, like mouthwash, making sure to pull it through your teeth. The longer you can manages to swish it around the better, people recommend around 10-15 minutes. Then you just spit out the oil (in the trash, not the sink!) Coconut oil has natural antibacterial properties, so it naturally cleans your teeth and mouth. I’ve tried oil pulling recently and have noticed that not only does my breath smell great, but my teeth have gotten whiter! Oil Pulling is definitely worth a try!
Add it to Your Morning Coffee
Adding coconut oil along with butter from grass-fed cows to your morning cup of coffee is also a new health trend. It’s not only delicious, but supposedly helps give you way more energy, and put your body into fat burning mode. People swear by it! Just add one tablespoon of coconut oil and one tablespoon of butter to a cup of coffee and try it out for yourself!
Anti-Frizz Serum
Use a little coconut oil in place of an anti-frizz serum. Just use a small amount to keep fly-away, stray hairs and frizz in check and add shine to your hair. It’s also a lot better for your hair than store bough anti-frizz serums!
Lip Balm
Coconut oil makes a great lip balm. Just put a little bit on your lips, and they’ll feel great! I’ve been doing this for a long time, and put it on whenever my lips need some extra moisturizing.
Make Up Remover
Instead of using store bough make up remover, simply put some coconut oil on a cotton pad, and use it to remove your eye makeup instead!
Moisturizing Lotion
Coconut oil makes a great lotion, and even face moisturizer. Use it whenever you need some deep moisturizing. I love to use it on my hands, especially in the winter months. It absorbs quickly into the skin, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily afterward.
Body Scrub
Coconut oil with sugar or brown sugar makes a great body scrub. I’ve used this on my body as well as on my face with great results, and it’s so easy! I just mix equal parts sugar and coconut oil and that’s it!
Butter Baking Substitute
Coconut oil can be used in place of butter for baking. It’s nice and simple, just substitute at a 1:1 ratio, one cup of butter means one cup of coconut oil. Many people prefer how their baked good taste with coconut oil instead of butter!
Energy Booster Supplement
Taking 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil daily has been shown to increase metabolism, energy and improve thyroid function. Instead of reaching for an energy drink, try some coconut oil instead!
Help Heal Wounded Skin
Rubbing coconut oil on minor cuts and scrapes, bruises, and even psoriasis and eczema can help them heal faster! I’ve used coconut oil on my eczema and have found that it helps, even more than my prescribed topical ointments. Next time you get a scrape, cut or bruise, or if you have psoriasis or eczema, give a little coconut oil a try!
What Kind of Coconut Oil Should You Buy?
When choosing a coconut oil, it is best to get coconut oil that is Cold-Pressed, Extra Virgin, and Non-Hydrogenated. My go-to coconut oil brand is Skinny & Co Coconut Oil.
Skinny & Co Coconut Oil is premium coconut oil. It is truly cold pressed, and is never heated above room temperature, unlike most coconut oils on the market. Their process takes nearly three times as long, and requires double the coconuts needed to fill their jars, but results in truly quality coconut oil.
Skinny & Co Coconut Oil has the light, yummy coconut flavor you expect from coconut oil, with a light fragrance and a very smooth texture. Their coconut oil is all natural, and because it is truly cold pressed and never heated over room temperature, it is the only raw coconut oil on the market. It is also pesticide free and 100% pure. They also promote fair trade, and get their coconuts from a pristine, wild jungle environment in Vietnam, not a plantation.
I really enjoy Skinny & Co Coconut Oil for use in cooking, and in many of the unusual uses mentioned above. If you’re looking for some true, quality coconut oil to use in all the many wonderful uses for coconut oil, you should check them out!

I’m getting down to the last of my Nutiva gallon container of coconut oil and need to shop for some more. The gallon container is less expensive but a little inconvenient. I do want to try the oil pulling for my teeth.

I just tried a couple of no-bake treats with coconut oil, and it was fun and easy, and yummy, too. I’d like to try a couple of these uses!
