Ocedar Promist mop review

*I was provided with an O-cedar mop. All opinions are my own.

When I moved to a new apartment back in January, one of the biggest benefits was having very little carpet. All of my old apartments had carpet in every room except for the bathroom and kitchen. I’m not a fan of carpeting – I won’t even buy a rug unless it is machine washable. I don’t feel like it’s possible to get carpeting anywhere near as clean as you can other types of flooring. While I was excited about only having carpet in one room in my new apartment, I didn’t realize until we moved here how badly I would need a better mop.

My old mop worked OK for what little I needed to use it before. I would use a rag to scrub any noticeable messes like spills, mud or something sticky. I’d mainly use my old mop to go over the floor with cleaner once it was mostly already clean. If the floor had any dust, dirt, hair, etc the mop wouldn’t clean it off unless I pushed really hard and went over an area a million times – it was just easier to grab a dishcloth and scrub it that way. I was okay with this method for just the (tiny) kitchen and bathrooms that I had before but I quickly grew tired of it once we moved here, with the whole apartment being laminate.

When I got the O-Cedar ProMist, I noticed that it was different from my old mop in four ways.

1. It has the ability to spray cleaner directly from the mop instead of squirting the cleaner onto the floor.

2. Instead of being just a stick-handle, it has a true ‘handle’ on the end, including a trigger that can be squeezed to spray the cleaner onto the floor in front of the mop.

3. The microfiber pads were MUCH thicker – probably twice as thick as the pads my old mop came with. The fibers on the pad are longer and they pad is also just “fuller” feeling – I assume it has more individual fibers than my old microfiber pads had.

4. The handle can be twisted and turned in almost a 360 degree style. My old mop was just front and back, or side to side.

I really liked the ProMist from the first time I used it. I was really impressed with how much more control I had over the mop as a result of the mop can be adjusted to so many different angles. I can easily get under furniture, around chair legs and around corners of my walls. My dogs have been shedding a LOT lately and even though I sweep well before I mop, there are inevitably a few hairs that get missed. My old mop would push these around, creating a gross, wet line of hair. The ProMist microfiber pads are much thicker and they just grab dust, dirt and hair instead of pushing them around. I think the misting ability of the mop helps with this too because the cleaner is spread out in a light mist in front of your mop so the pad doesn’t get drenched in cleaner.

If you prefer to use disposable pads, O-Cedar offers those as well. You should never leave cleaner in the mop when not in use as it can damage the mops sprayer. You can hand or machine wash the reusable pads roughly 100 times before they will need replaced.

The O-Cedar ProMist is currently selling for $25.99 on Amazon. This includes one microfiber pad, additional pads can be purchased separately.
