Eartheasy.com is a website that is all about sustainable living. They provide information guides to assist you with transitioning to a green or sustainable lifestyle in so many ways. For example, they have guides available for sustainable living, eating, growing (gardening), playing and dressing. They also sell a collection of items that are sustainable made and that support sustainable living.
Eartheasy.com has a section of gifts that is broken down into several smaller categories as well – for the home, for the gardener, for the chef, for kids, for preparedness, under $50 and stocking stuffers. My mom and my mother in law both enjoy gardening so I looked into the gifts for gardeners section. Several items caught my eye but when I came to the Window Nest Box, I knew it would be perfect for my mother in law.
My mother in law loves watching animals in her back yard. She will even intentionally put leftovers like fruits at the edge of her woods so that she can see a raccoon or possums. She also keeps several bird feeders so that she can watch birds from a distance. The Window Nest Box is essentially a bird house with one side of the house being clear. That side of the bird house can stick to a window or sliding glass door with three suction rings. I am hopeful that my mother in law will be able to get a bird family to use the bird house while on her slider so that she can observe them without disturbing them. I remember being a child and wanting to get up close to a bird nest but until finding the Window Nest Box I didn’t think there was a safe way to observe a bird’s nest or home without disturbing the birds. I know it’ll be the perfect gift for my mother in law this year.
I also wandered to the Sustainable Gifts For Kids section. I’ll be adding the Eco-Finger Paint to my craft drawer here. Many of the kids who come over (my kid sister and nieces and nephews) enjoy painting while here. I’ve tried a few varieties of children’s paint but it tends to dry out if it isn’t used quickly. I only have children here once a week or so and they don’t want to paint each time they are here. As a result, it can take several months for a regular container of paint to get completely used and it often dries up long before that happens. In addition to being an eco-friendly paint that is made with natural fruit, plant and vegetable extracts I like how it comes in a powder form. You mix it with water so you can control its consistency a bit and you only have to mix up what you plan to use that day. As a result, I think it’ll be a nice paint to have on hand here as it won’t go bad if we don’t use it all in a short time period. The kids gifts section includes other natural craft supplies that would be ideal for any art-loving kids!
Are you working on giving ecofriendly gifts this year? Who on your list lives in a “green” lifestyle?
