I have six nephews ranging from age 4 up to age 10. When it comes to buying gifts for the boys, I know that anything “gross” is sure to win them over. They like almost anything that is dirty, sticky, stinky, smushy, loud, etc. Of course, their mothers don’t always appreciate these types of items so I try to find toys that compromise between the parents’ desire to keep their houses clean and the boys’ desire to check out gross, weird, interesting stuff.
I think Mash’Ems from Tech4Kids is a line of toys that balances this compromise nicely. Mash’Ems are squishy, sticky figures that are kind of blob-like in shape and texture. They come in fun character designs including Angry Birds, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel superheroes and more. You can purchase Mash’Ems individually or in sets that include various types of launchers.
I personally find the angry birds mash’em sets to be the coolest. In the angry-birds game you launch the birds with a slingshot. The mash’ems launcher for the angry birds set looks just like the slingshot in the game. I can see my nephews setting up their own “real life” version of angry birds by making a stack of various small toys or other objects around their home and then flinging a mash’em to try to knock over the pile. I have to admit, it sounds fun even to me. The Angry Birds Mash’Ems Game Pack even includes a few boxes, a stone and a pig so you can set up your own real life game.
Do your kids like squishy, gooey stuff? Which Mash’ems toys do you think they’d like best?
