Thank you to Alex Brands for providing me with product in exchange for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
Kids love adventure, whether they are young toddlers or preteens. Programs like boy scouts can be such a blessing for kids of all ages, as they learn so much. If you’re in an area without a program like this there are tons of parent led alternatives! One I’m happy to share with you all is Backyard Safari Outfitters. They are a company really highlighting the adventure in children’s play!
I was sent a Base Camp Shelter for review. My three year old son was pretty excited about opening this and setting it up as he’s a big fan of forts and tents. So as soon as we were clear from a rainy day forecast we went out and sent it up. Upon opening the box we were able to see that there were patches inside as well as a whole backyard safari adventure experience. This toy is geared for ages 5 years and up which seems about right. Putting it up myself was not a difficult task but my three year old would have had quite a hard time. Everything came together quite well and directions were pretty easy to follow.
My son instantly got inside and lounged with his little sister. I noticed it becoming quite a hangout for them. It also had netted pockets which quickly were utilized for rock gathering and binocular pouches. I think that the over all idea is great as there are quite a few objective ways to put it together to gain skills and merit your tent badge(which is included). I also appreciated how portable this is as it for one tears down quick and could be stored away for a beach day sun/wind blocker, or to pick up and move throughout the yard.
I ended up using these small ground staples to hold it down and had no problems even in a pretty windy rain storm. I think Backyard Safari Outfitter is a great introduction for kids into exploring the world around them as well as learning some pretty great problem solving skills.
I am a stay at home mother of two, who loves to create in every form, from cooking, to henna, to painting or sculpting, creating with my hands is my passion! I love to dance and let loose when the music flows right. Being outside is a special kind of therapy I think humans need more of as well as mindfulness! I love all things new and adventurous and am always looking to experience more of life 🙂
