Thank you for the folks at Brondell for providing me with product for review in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Yup you read that right, a bidet! Im sure you have heard of it, in some form or another, whether through cultural experience or joke. The FreshSpa easy bidet is essentially an attachment you install onto your already functioning toilet. In the box you get the actual attachment, along with a 7/8″ brass T-valve connector, flexible bidet hose and installation instructions. The instruction were for sure a necessity as I, as a normal mom, am a bit fearful of plumbing. I always fear turning something the wrong way or too tightly and picture my whole house flooded with water. Now before I get too far into the actual review I should go over some reasons on why a bidet might be beneficial to you and your family!
As crazy as it sounds the positives of a bidet can be such a long list but ill try to keep it to a decent amount here. Ill start with women, the average woman has experienced, or will experience a yeast infection at some point in her life. Using a bidet instead of toilet paper can greatly diminish the possibility further irritating sensitive tissues during this time. Pregnancy? I wish I would have had a bidet during pregnancy and post-partum. For those that don’t know, hemorrhoids are no joke and are a common occurrence in pregnancy and birth. What I wouldn’t have given to experience a nice gentle stream instead of what felt like sand paper in those early post-partum days. So now you may be on board but how will you talk the rest of your family into it? Well here’s another public service announcement, hemorrhoids aren’t partial to women only! Thats right, men get them too and they can be severely uncomfortable! Kids would be my next area of benefits, I have a toddler in the years of three which feels like a long road to independence. In that long road is the teaching of personal hygiene. Ok, no more beating around the bush, everyone has to learn to wipe their own butt right? Well if you have a child, you know they generally care little about personal hygiene and more about play. If your child’s rear isn’t spotless, I’m sure its of no concern to them until its itchy and irritated hours later. So while it might take some getting used to for your little ones it can be a real time and effort saver for you, the parent, in the long run. If you can’t relate to any of these reasons why a bidet might be right for your home, perhaps this might leave a bit more impact, America alone uses 34 million rolls of toilet paper in one day, ONE DAY! Thats 221,00 trees a day for your butt! That alone is a pretty big factor in welcoming a toilet paper alternative into the home if only part time or used by only partial members of the household.
Now that I’ve got you considering a bidet lets talk about the FreshSpa bidet attachment! Keep in mind this is only an attachment not a full bidet seat in which you can be offered some warm water and a warm air dryer! As I said before installation was something I was nervous about. For our particular toilet the install did take a bit longer as well as some extra work as instead of having a flex tube that connects from floor to the bottom of the toilet we have a stiff one. The attachment fit pretty well on our taller and more oval toilet seat. The bidet has a small control panel on the side to adjust intensity as well as put the nozzle in self cleaning mode. In our particularly small bathroom I wish the nozzle could be on the reverse side, but water hookups wouldn’t work as well that way. Now right after installation I noticed that I could adjust the actual nozzle into 3 separate angles to accurately place the spray direction. The nozzle worked perfect just as stated and controls also worked just as stated, I was able to control pressure as well as rinse the actual nozzle itself. That’s it, that was installation now onto the real test.
I’ll save you the TMI and just let you know that I really did test it out for both toilet trips. The water was a pretty cold shock at first but literally within a couple seconds your used to it and after rinsing I tested with toilet paper to double check the clean offered by the bidet alone. Test, passed with flying colors or should I say a lack of colors! Now that the cleaning was over I found myself with a wet bottom, my initial solution, toilet paper, but I quickly remembered those statistics and that toilet paper falls apart when wet. My next option was a towel, and that worked just fine. I didn’t know if I would be swayed in the ways of bidet before this review but after having used it a few times, I really think that this is such a better option in toiletry hygiene! I do think though that I would definitely be more cement in this decision in having a warmed water stream, along with a dryer as to stay comfortable and get everything done in one place sort of experience! One other thing I would mention is that in our bathroom a lot of the fixtures are higher priced and unique, the FreshSpa bidet attachment is pretty contrasting to a lot of the decor in our bathroom seems as how its made of bright white plastic. It is with certainty that I have developed a preference to a bidet style toilet and I think the FreshSpa attachment was a great gateway into the bidet experience and they are giving away another attachment to one lucky reader! So we’ll both have super clean bums, and waste less!
