Thank you to DadGear for providing me with a product free of charge in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

More and more often whether traveling or in my home town I’m seeing a more and more favorable trend. That trend being dad’s having a more hands on approach to their children, and not just children but babies as well!  I remember when I was younger I heard a lot of dads saying they didn’t change diapers, that was the moms duty. As I’ve grown and since had my own children that seems to not be the case so much anymore and what a joyous thing! There are some very intimate moments that can be shared through a diaper change! So now that fathers are changing, its time products change as well!

dadgear backpack diaper bag review

DadGear is a company founded by two fathers who decided it was time for the products geared towards diapering a child whilst out and about where changed. They decided the focus shouldn’t only be on a mothers taste but a fathers as well! There aren’t a lot of men I know who love carrying around a pink diaper bag, but a lot of them still do it. Thanks to Dadgear hopefully more fathers will feel supported in their choice to better serve their children and take some of the load off from mom as well!

I’ve seen the look of dread on my husbands face when I ask him to grab the diaper bag or bring it with him somewhere, and instead he usually opts for grabbing only the bare minimum of what is needed, and ends up unprepared for the unfortunate blowout that inevitably occurs. Not only is there the look of dread of style choice, but my husband is a big organizer (think adjusting furniture inch my inch for a center fit) and if I’m going to be honest my diaper bag is far from his idea of organized. He hates having to look for anything inside of it. So the organization aspect of this bag really appeals to him. Everything has a place and everything fits in that place. The wipes pocket I’d have to say is one of the more perfect examples of this, no digging or rooting around, just right there when its needed. Speaking of rooting around the bag opens completely in half to better quickly find items needed versus a regular backpack that only opens halfway and your stuck digging into a large most likely full pocket with little or no light. The backpack also comes with a washable removable changing mat, which can be a life saver when a public changing station is either all out of mats or doesn’t provide them. This bag also has two side pockets for a bottle but in our case of exclusively breastfed, our children have never taken bottles. The pockets however are large enough to hold an adult size water bottle securely which is what we’ve used them for!

dadgear backpack clam

This is the bag opened “clam style”. Fits my entire carrier and still leaves room for a change of clothes for both kids.

My husband also unfortunately has a bad back and being a backpack style rather than over the arm purse style bag (like a majority of diaper bags are) really helps keep him totally hands free when carrying as well as comfortable in the spine. When I showed him the Ancient Argyle Backpack diaper bag he was pretty excited to switch all of our “out and about” baby gear to it, he loved the style, print and organization. I sort of took it as a bit of an intervention to how truly unorganized my my bag really was and welcomed the change! When I switched over the diapers I realized that using my old diaper bag wasn’t offering much protection for the diapers I carried, as they were all smashed and covered in weird crumbs from snacks and snack wrappers. The dadgear backpack has a diaper hammock like pocket right at the top easy to access and offering just enough protection from child snack debris. Another thing I found myself appreciating was that I could toss it in the car or hang it from the grocery cart by its little pocket hook and didn’t need to worry about contents slipping out and getting lost, which is something I have to constantly be conscious of when using a regular open style diaper bag. So all in all not only was my husband a huge fan of this diaper backpack but so was I! Do you know any fathers or expecting fathers that could use a high five for changing diapers and being involved? If so, gift them with one of the awesome prints available and encourage their role in their child’s most basic needs!

Well heck yeah with the diaper bag backpack for dads. They have diaper purses for moms so equal time, I say. I love how this opens to a changing area, much better than a purse could. Great for moms or dads, or grandparents!
