I have a strange personality when it comes to having patience. I like to be really prepared for changes. I try to pin down as many details in advance as possible, so I know exactly what to expect. Yet, once I have decided to move forward with something, I get almost obsessed or consumed with thinking about it. I researched pet hedgehogs and pugs for a year or better before feeling ready to get them as pets. Yet once I decided I was ready, I was constantly searching the internet for available pets.  When we move from one apartment to the next I think about it daily for months beforehand.

I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 7.5 years, and don’t feel like the time is right for us to have a baby yet. I turned 24 yesterday and I guess I just feel like I can be a lot more prepared if I wait a couple more years. I know that once I decide I’m ready, it’ll be all I think or talk about.

Even when my siblings have been planning their families or pregnant, I have such a hard time waiting. My sister Erica is currently expecting, and she has an appointment next week to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl. It’s been so hard to wait and I was bummed when I learned that her doctor was having her schedule her appointment for 20 weeks because I know some doctors do the gender ultrasound at 16 weeks. It’s so hard to wait another week when I know we could have already found out.

I can only imagine how hard it must be to wait to find out if you’re pregnant yet once you begin trying. I’m so glad that we live in an age where pregnancy detection technology has come so far, that we don’t have to wait as long as women used to.
