Thank you to Treats for providing product in exchange for review purposes. All opinions belong to me.
I’ve already discussed the benefits of subscription boxes they’re convenient, easy, and almost always opening your mind to a new product/ experience. Country based subscription boxes have to be one of my favorites because I’m able to enjoy multiple snacks of multiple origins without much effort or expense!
My husband and I are huge foodies but we don’t have the budget to travel across the globe for our foodie passions. Anything that helps fulfill that foodie passion without costing me too much is something I’m interested in. How much easier could it be? The team at Treats researches, organizes and articulates the perfect snack based representation of each continent. After all that hard work they work even harder to make sure each box gets to you in a timely matter for you to enjoy each month!
I received a Premium Pack subscription box themed around Japan! As you guys may have read before, I recently tried a different subscription box also themed around Japan. The two boxes were so different from each other which I really appreciated. That, to me, meant that each box was staying true to their general purpose. In the case of Treats it meant providing some very popular snacks and treats, that were ready to munch on right then. I only received one duplicate item between the two which was the Japanese Milk caramels pictured below, and I loved them so much I’m happy to get another box!
We had so many things inside this box, I loved the variety! Since I already started with sweets I’ll continue there. America has cotton candy, but Japan has cotton candy in crazy flavors with, get this, pop rocks inside!
Next on the awesome Japan list is what I called an American imitation candy, the company basically took flavored white chocolate and shaped in into ice cream. My 3 year old was a big fan of this candy/ice cream phenomenon.
Onto yet another sweet, that I recognized from my local grocery store, Pocky!. A description of this would be a cookie like stick covered in strawberry melty candy.
My kids were fans of this as well.
One of the more bizarre snacks inside the Treats Box was a Cola flavored candy. This ones hard to describe as I’ve never had anything like it before. The cola flavored candy was chewy and had cola taste but left you with a mint after taste that flowed surprisingly well.
Another sweet we had the privilege of trying was a lychee and mango gummy snack. We didn’t find the Lychee gummy to be extraordinary but it wasn’t bad either. The mango however I felt tasted exactly like mango!
Moving onto some tasty savory snacks, first up is the Japanese rice cracker. The flavor and texture of this was out of this world. The taste was similar to a bugle and the texture was dense, crunchy but almost chewy. I really like this and it wasn’t easy to share, so I didn’t!
I was able to recognize this next snack as Im pretty sure I’ve seen something very similar in chex mixes/trail mixes before. This snack was on the spicy but flavor lacking side.
Shrimp chips, not exactly everyones first go-to when you think of on-the-go snacks. These were a lot better than I had expected them to be. Although they do leave you with shrimp breath!
Finally was Jagabee butter soy sauce flavored “fries”. These looked exactly like french fries but were dry and crispy like a chip! Just the right amount of salt and butter flavor. My kids also really liked these!
This is a snack box we shared with a couple friends of ours who were instantly sparked with curiosity and wanted to buy right away. The value of what you get vs. what you pay is perfect in my opinion. Treats offers two plans, The Standard Pack offering 4-5 snacks for $12.95 and The Premium pack offering 8-10 snacks for $24.95 per month. You lucky readers have been offered a 15% discount on your first box from Treats, just use coupon code “EM15” during checkout!
I am a stay at home mother of two, who loves to create in every form, from cooking, to henna, to painting or sculpting, creating with my hands is my passion! I love to dance and let loose when the music flows right. Being outside is a special kind of therapy I think humans need more of as well as mindfulness! I love all things new and adventurous and am always looking to experience more of life 🙂

I’d like to try all of those but especially the Shrimp Chips.

I had not heard of this box but it sounds quite interesting. I will have to watch for your next month’s review and see what country they choose then!

I love reading about different subscription boxes and this Japanese one is so different. I like that you can see if it is gluten free or not. I know some of these types of foods are too salty for me, so that might be an issue. I tend to like savory over sweet so I would just explore and try everything.
I’ve never tried a subscription box before, but this looks yummy!
