Have you ever found yourself taking fewer pictures of your baby as they get bigger? We tend to snap tons of photos in those early weeks – partially because they are brand new and partially because they are just laying there and so easy to photograph. Once a baby can roll over, crawl or walk it’s a lot harder to get a great shot because they’re in action most of the time.

Capturing photos is important to me, so I take a few steps to make sure I get lots of photos even through the super active months. One way that I capture special moments with active babies is by keeping my camera in my pocket. I intentionally bought a really thin digital camera so it fits in my pants pocket even on skinny jeans. It’s always on me so I’m always seconds away from snapping a photo. I also chose a camera with a really good battery life so I can capture a lot between charges. With younger babies, especially before they begin smiling in response to your actions, snapping a lot of photos in a row is key to capturing those split-second grins.

Another way that I capture good photos with active babies is to just let them act naturally. Trying to pose babies or even toddlers or preschoolers can be really tough if it’s not something they enjoy. Instead of trying to get your child to sit in a certain way, just let them run about as usual and snap a lot of photos as they act naturally and you’ll end up with some photos that show off their natural smiles and movements which can be just as special – or more, than posed photos.

I think that the idea of letting active kids “do their thing” is important for more than just photos. Little ones are natural explorers and their desire to explore helps them learn about the world around them. Creating a safe home environment and then letting your child explore as much as possible can actually help them learn.

One day to help encourage your baby to be active is by dressing them in a way that doesn’t restrict movement. Of course, well-fitting, comfortable clothing is great but saggy or ill-fitting diapers can restrict your baby as well. Huggies Little Movers diapers are made with a Moving Baby System for a great grip, fit and wetness protection. Huggies Little Movers absorb on contact so your baby isn’t left feeling wet or with a saggy diaper that will restrict their movement. Huggies Little Movers diapers are a great option for babies from the time that they are rolling or sitting up all the way up through walking.

Right now, Huggies is running the #SetBabyFree campaign. Upload pictures of your little one in action on Twitter or Instagram with the #SetBabyFree hashtag for a chance to be featured on the Huggies social media pages!

I have a very difficult time getting great photos of my 4mo due to her always thrashing her arms and kicking her legs. But, I do like you and snap many, many photos in a row (which takes a long time to review) and usually end up with a couple decent ones out of them… Or at least capture a smile, etc,… where everything else is a little blurry 😉
