I received product from Antique Lamp Supply. All opinions and photos are my own.

Over the summer, we moved from the city to the country. We purchased a home on a small farm. We have been told that during a good storm, the house will lose power. The previous owners said it doesn’t happen every year, but it can happen. My in-laws live fairly close to us and said they do lose power every year. One year, the power stayed off for as long as a week. Whether or not the power goes out, I want to be prepared.

One of the things I am doing to prepare for a power outage is making sure we have a portable source of light. For my review, I received a Dietz #2500 Jupiter Lantern in Black from Antique Lamp Supply.

A Dietz #2500 Jupiter Lantern offers 75 burn hours on 80 ounces of fuel. The lantern is 15 inches tall, has an output of 12 candlepower and takes a 7/8” lantern wick. The lantern has an ergonomical burner design to achieve an efficient “fan” shape burn. The glass globe has been designed for durability. The Dietz #2500 Jupiter Lantern also has a safety cut-off. If for some reason your lamp is accidentally knocked over, it will extinguish after ten seconds.

I love that the Dietz #2500 Jupiter Lantern has that “old time” look to it. It reminds me of a lantern you would see on a classic show or movie. Part of me is actually hoping our power goes out for a bit. The thought of sitting around the table with my family putting together a puzzle by candlelight sounds nice.

Having a portable light source is also a great idea to have on hand in the event of a natural disaster. I plan to purchase another Dietz lantern to keep in our family emergency preparedness kit.

For your safety, please remember to never leave your lamp unattended. Only use pure kerosene lamp oil fuel in your lamps. Always keep your lamps out of the reach of kids and pets.

Im in Ca. and we havent had a good storm in along time. This yr we’re expecting El Nino so I know the power will go out. I love the look of this lantern. It reminds me of the lanterns on Little House On The Prairie. I agree with you, it would be fun sitting at the table doing a puzzle by the light of the lantern 🙂

I love that if it gets tipped over, it will extinguish after ten seconds. I worry about fire hazards in my apartment. We’ve had a few outages here, once the dept of water and power cut the line digging and the electricity was out for a day! I love old westerns so you know I love the old time feel of this design.
