My husband lost his dad earlier this year after a very long battle with colon cancer, prostate cancer, and Parkinson’s Disease. It was really nice to see my husband and his siblings come together those last few months and help their mom care for him as they were able to keep him at the apartment (as opposed to a nursing home) that way. Every single day, each of the brothers would take turns throughout the day heading over to help him out of bed, get him down and then back up from his naps, and then finally to get him settled back in bed at the end of the day. His sister, who lives further away, committed to coming up for the weekends to cover the shifts. So while it was great to see his family join forces, the fact that his dad’s health was failing made life very difficult. In remembrance of him, I was happy to partner with The Patchwork Bear.
The Patchwork Bear sent me a box along with instructions on what they would need. I could send whole shirts and even scraps of what was left of his favorites. They include some stickers to allow customers to customize where certain materials are used or just package everything up and they will work their magic. So I chose to let them decide what would be best and sent the box off.
While the whole process did take just over a month from the shirts and scraps of material leaving our door to the bears arrival, my husband and I are extremely pleased with the results! Our Memory Bear from The Patchwork Bear is beautiful and our daughter keeps saying how it even smells like Grandpa. (Yes, the clothes were clean and freshly laundered before I sent.) The stitching looks great, the bear is fully stuffed, and he will make the perfect gift this Christmas for my husbands mother!

I really love this idea . . I lost my dad 7 years ago from the illness that we both have that sadly has no cure 🙁 I miss him soooo much and it breaks my heart cause he never got to meet my sons and my boys never got to meet their grandpa 🙁 I have lots of my dads clothing so seeing this review made me so happy cause I can also order a bear with my dads old clothes so my boys can remember their grandpa even though they never met him. . I’ve been saving newborn clothes and more since birth, and have “said” I’ll make a quilt… but really I’m not very skilled nor do I have a lot of time (who does?) So I really think The Patchwork Bear will come in handy for me! Thanks for the post!

This is such a cute idea. My girls (twins) are really loving stuffed animals and having them personalized like this would be so cute. Plus we have so many clothes that we would love to keep and this is the perfect way. Thanks for sharing.
