I’ve been baking for as long as I can remember.  I have always enjoyed being in the kitchen and creating delicious food and treats for everyone to enjoy.  Once in Jr. High, I couldn’t wait until our Family & Consumer Science Class because I knew there would be a short section spent in the kitchen.  We created some delicious mini pizzas, muffins, and cookies that I thoroughly enjoyed on the bus ride home.  Once in high school, I signed up for the Home Economics class as soon as I could because I knew we would spend every Friday in the classroom kitchen for the entire quarter.  Now, as a mom, I still enjoy creating yummy meals and desserts for my family.  So I decided to jump into the technological side and review the Perfect Bake.

• What Is It:  The Perfect Bake is a smart baking system that combines a scale and app that creates delicious results every time.
• How Does It Work:  The Perfect Bake Scale connects to your tablet or smart phone.  Users can then download the Free App and select from 100s of recipes from a wide range of categories.  Plug the scale in, select your recipe, and the app walks you through – Step-By-Step.

When we received our Perfect Bake 1.0, the kids and I watched the demo video to learn how to get started.  Unfortunately, we ended up with a defective scale that wouldn’t work but the company was quick to ship a replacement.  That scale worked perfectly so we got right down to business!

We started off with their Chocolate Chunk Cookie Recipe.  (I chose this because I’m terrible at making cookies.  It’s actually been years since I’ve tried making chocolate chip cookies because mine never turn out.  So I thought this recipe would be the best test.)  The kids loved how the app walked us through each step and “dinged” as well as turned red when enough of each ingredient was added.  The moving measurement was also really handy as it let us know when we were getting close.

Another handy feature on the app is the fact that timers are also included when needed.  So when it was time to bake, the timer gave us a warning check 2 minutes prior to ending so we could take the cookies out if done.  Then it gave another ding once the full time ended.  Directly above that step also included a 4 minute timer for the rest period before taking the cookies off the pan.  So helpful!  Plus, the cookies were delicious!

The kids and I have also tried out and enjoyed their Waffle Recipe from their beginners section as well.  Another hit!  (We’ve actually made them 3 times already!)

• Verdict:  While the Perfect Bake is not a necessary requirement for cooking or baking, it definitely adds an element of fun.  It is especially handy with the kiddos helping as they don’t need me giving them every command.  I also like not having a bunch of measuring cups and spoons to wash and the two recipes we’ve tried so far have been great. 
• Changes?:  One change I’d like to see is a longer wire between the scale and iPad (or device being used).  I worry with my little ones helping, that something will get spilled and I don’t want to ruin our iPad.
