Green Chef Review

Thanks goes to Green Chef for providing me with product in exchange for review. All opinions are my own.

Eating healthy, eating clean, and eating mostly organic are big things I strive for in a daily regiment. I easily run out of meal ideas and am only recently learning how to make something out of what seems to be nothing. I’m always willing and eager to learn more when it comes to cooking and food. Any meal type subscription I can get my hands on I feel is like a mini cooking school. One that uses strictly organic ingredients, even better!

Green Chef is a meal subscription company using fresh, organic ingredients to make healthy flavorful meals. Each week a new menu is created with six options. A paleo menu is also created weekly to offer three meal options. Green Chef allows you to choose your delivery day as well as which weeks you receive meals. Everything within a Green Chef box is cold packed in a refrigerated container to ensure safe handling of food during delivery and drop off.

Standard meal plans such as vegetarian, omnivore, and carnivore range in price from $10.49-$13.49 per person per meal. More specialized plans such as paleo and gluten free price in the range of $13.49-$14.99. I always feel that comparing meal subscriptions pricing with buying a meal at a restaurant is unfair. At a restaurant your dollar value goes as far as choosing and eating a meal and often times relying quite a bit on that restaurant for that exact flavor and recipe. With a meal subscription service your dollar value earns you new cooking techniques, a new food language if you will, as well as eating, enjoying and then walking away knowing more and being more self reliant in preparing fine meals.

I received three meals from Green Chef Chicken Couscous Soup, Pumpkin Stuffed Shells, Steak & Beet Panzanella. Upon looking through the ingredients I was most excited about the Steak & Beet Panzanella. Chicken Couscous soup was a second place with Pumpkin Stuffed Shells placing third. Each meal was estimated under 35 minutes total!

The Green Chef contents were all so very fresh, vibrant and organized. Each meal was color coded with a sticker to ensure you were using the correct ingredients in each dish. After opening the box I sorted each ingredient by colored sticker and placed in a shopping bag and then into the fridge until ready to cook.

First step in putting together the Steak & Panzanella meal was to chop the kale and dice the golden beet.

Slicing oiling and seasoning the potatoes was the next step.

Excuse the blurriness of this photo as I had to open the oven to snap the picture, apparently my camera was not a fan of the extreme heat. Homemade croutons were something I’ve never made before but will continue to make instead of buy!

Sautéing the golden beet add onion was next. I will mention that the onions were pre-sliced which made things a little quicker!

Raw meat ever really photographs well in my opinion so I chose to omit the searing and cooking of the grass-fed steak. Once everything was finished I followed the plating tips and wa-la! Beautiful restaurant quality meal made at home!

The Chicken Couscous Soup and carrot salad was something my husband put together and in the whole process he felt that he wasn’t going to like the soup (he isn’t a big soup guy anyways). After the meal was finished he devoured the soup and said to make sure I kept the recipe card so that he could make it again! I also really liked the soup, the flavor was so delicate light and refreshing despite being a soup!

Pumpkin Stuffed Shells, was a flavor I hadn’t yet tasted before but was able to appreciate. I learned so much from cooking this meal, adding citrus to a salad was something I was very unsure of but found so easy and tasty! Pumpkin seeds make an amazing garnish on top of meal types that need a bit of crunch added to their texture.

If you are looking for an amazing meal subscription service with well sourced and organic ingredients Green Chef is the choice for you. Unique artfully crafted menu choices are a large characteristic of Green Chef that I really appreciated. If you’re wondering if these menu option are children approved, rest assured they are. My kids devoured the Steak & Panzanella meal. Surprisingly the horseradish sauce for the steak was especially admired by the kiddos. Green Chef does an amazing job at showing you eating clean, whole, and healthy doesn’t have to be hard or bland!

I can see bachelors really loving this service. I’ve been cooking for years and nutrition was my first degree so I would get it for others to encourage them to think healthier eating. I’m so amazed how much some eat out. It’s so expensive and not too healthy sometimes. I also don’t care for all the wrappings of plastic, especially for organic food.

The meals look both delicious and healthy! This would save a lot of time needed to plan the recipe and shop for all the ingredients.

This looks so good. I always wondered how a meal subscription worked. I would love to try it.

This subscription meal looks good. It’s so hard to find certain fresh food at the market or it’s past the ripe stage. We have been so disappointed recently. I have a certain diet I have to eat due to a medical problem and when something is not available, it rearranges all our meal planning. I will be checking into this. Thanks for sharing.
