I was sent a Surprise My Pet dog subscription box for review. All opinions are my own.
My dogs are now 10 and 11 years old. I am so thankful that despite being seniors, they have a lot of energy still. I have family members with dogs who are as young as seven or eight who lay around all day and never really get excited or run around at all.
While I feel like my dogs are fairly energetic for their age, they still get a bit bored if I give them the same treats, chews and toys for long periods of time. I decided to try the dog subscription box Surprise My Pet because it delivers treats, toys and sometimes other goodies like chews/bones or pet accessories to keep your pup from getting bored.
When you sign up for Surprise My Pet you let them know if your dog is tiny, small, medium or large in size and that will influence how large the toys, treats and chews that come in your box will be. My dogs would be considered small dogs but for this review we opted for the medium size box to show you an example of what the mid-size dog box would look like.
The package arrived in a yellow box that immediately let me know it was the Surprise My Pet box and added to my excitement of seeing what was in the box. When you open the lid the inside is tissue-wrapped like a present.
Once I pulled the tissue paper back Frank ran over to start sniffing things over. I think he knew there were some yummy things inside for him.
The item on the very top of the box was a purple soft monkey toy. It has nice and long arms/legs which I knew would be perfect for playing tug with my pugs. Next I pulled out a cute milk-carton shaped box that was full of organic, all natural dog treats. They were little circular discs that were super easy to break into smaller pieces (I am cheap so I like to stretch out our treats!) and both dogs loved them. They did not have crumbs at the bottom of the carton and they weren’t brittle enough to break into ‘dust’ on their own, so I’m not sure where the crumbs that were on the stuffed monkey came from as they did not seem to be from the treats. The next item was a knotted rope toy. My pugs have never taken an interest in rope toys but this seems like a great item to have in a dog box for medium-sized dogs because at this size/weight many dogs would be too rough on stuffed toys, so a rope toy would be more appropriate for those dogs. I like how the box had something for both ends of the chewer scale in a sense.
My favorite item from the box was completely unexpected. I didn’t realize that Surprise My Pet sometimes included items outside of toys, treats and chews. So finding this little bow tie was a wonderful surprise. It adjusts in size to fit a wide range of neck sizes and I couldn’t wait to get it on Frank. I can’t even handle how adorable he looks in this bow tie!
There were three more items remaining in the box. The first was a z-bone edible dental chew. These are designed to basically ‘brush’ your dogs teeth as they chew on them. Plus, they are scented to help improve your dogs breath. The box also had a pack of Jones Natural Chews tender taffy. These are sticks that are soft like treats and are made with a beef liver blend that my dogs go crazy for. They are several inches long but I snapped them into half-inch or so pieces so we used them as several small treats instead of the larger treats. The last item was another item that really surprised me because it wasn’t your typical treat, chew or dog toy. It was a set of magnets that have dog-related words on them like sit, stay, good boy, fetch, etc. They would be perfect for hanging pictures of your dog(s) on the fridge. Kids also like trying to use them to make phrases.
In all I felt that the box was a nice value. The box starts at $25 (if you sign up for a single month) and drops down to $19 a month if you subscribe for a year at a time. Our box had two toys, a bow tie, magnets, a dental chew, two small containers of treats so 7 items in total.

OK the purple monkey toy and that cute bow tie are my faves. They didn’t have subscription dog boxes with my first Yorkie but he would have loved these.
