Kai Krate dog Subscription box

I was sent a Kai Krate dog subscription box to review with my pugs. All opinions are my own.

Kai Krate is a subscription box for dogs on a budget. Their boxes are under $15 a month and shipping is always free. Each box includes 3-4 toys, 1-2 chews and sometimes treats as well. Kai Krates are available in two sizes, the most popular being their ‘most dogs’ size but they also offer a really small dog box as well. I was sent the ‘most dogs’ size box for my pugs to check out.

The boxes are just plain shipping boxes which is fine by me because it helps cut down on business costs and keeps the subscription box a bit cheaper. Inside the box was wrapped with cute tissue paper.

Of course, each month’s box has slightly different items inside but our box had two toys, three chews and a box of treats.

I liked how the two toys included were quite different from each other. One was a soft but not stuffed duck toy which would appeal to most dogs who like plush toys. I know some dog owners are particularly fond of these flat plush toys when their dogs like to rip the stuffing out. When they come unstuffed that means they last longer! My dogs aren’t ones to tear the stuffing out but they still enjoy the flat ones so that worked out well. The other toy was quite different, it is a Chuckit! erratic ball that is designed to be used with ball launchers. It is not perfectly round so it will bounce in unpredictable ways when tossed. My dogs are really picky about toys and will only play with plush toys so while we won’t get use out of it, it was a nice pick for a subscription box as the Chuckit brand has a great reputation. I’m sure dogs who are interested in balls would love it.

The three chews also had a nice variety. One was a Barkworthies beef backstrap, a second was a red barn beef esophagus and the third was a dental chew. Chews are a really sensitive product category, with many dog owners being extremely choosy about which chews they do and don’t feel safe giving their dogs. I was glad that none of these were rawhide based, as rawhide is definitely the most controversial chew. However, I find dental chews to be controversial as well (though not as much as rawhide). I completely avoid rawhide, but don’t worry a whole lot about most other chews because my dogs are not aggressive chewers so I think their risk of choking on soft/lightweight chews or dealing with splinters from hard bones is pretty low. I have tried several products from Barkworthies and Red Barn in the past that were great, strong long-lasting chews so I decided to go ahead and let my dogs try them. Both of the chews we were sent were much weaker than products we had tried from those brands before. Both chews were consumed in less than 5 minutes, while my pugs get 45+ minutes out of a 6 inch bully stick for comparison. The backstrap splintered into a lot of small stick-like pieces that I know would concern some pet owners. The esophagus didn’t splinter but it was not very long-lasting at all. Overall I wasn’t bothered by the chews as my dogs didn’t gag on them or have any signs of digestive issues with them, but I wouldn’t be surprised for many pet owners to be uncomfortable giving the chews to their dogs. However, really long-lasting chews like bully sticks are expensive so I understand why they don’t align well with the Kai Krate budget of $15 a box. So if you are a pet owner who is very selective about chews that is something to keep in mind.

The last item in the box was a super cute box of treats. The outer box looked like a van or bus with pets riding in it! Plus, the treats inside were shaped like animal cracker cookies! We’ve bought a lot of treats over the years but I think this container and the treats themselves are the cutest we’ve seen yet. Plus, my dogs loved them.

Kai Krate subscription box Review

Overall I think the kai krate subscription box was a nice value for the price. If you’re looking for an affordable way to keep your dog entertained I’d recommend Kai Krate as long as you aren’t really selective about chews. All of their boxes are under $15 a month, but you can save a bit more by subscribing for 3 or 6 months upfront. Plus, use the code FRANKANDBEANS to get 10% off your first box! PLUS, the first 50 people to sign up using the code will get a free chew bone added to their box!

I wish we had the money for this for our two dogs! They’d love it. They need a little spoiling.

Ha, ha, dogs on a budget, I agree! Dogs don’t know if it’s a costly or frugal subscription box and this looks great. No need to spend a ton and I like you can subscribe for any length of time.

My box was not nearly as well presented (for smaller dogs) had 2 dollar store looking toys, one tiny bone, one tiny bar treat and the school bus treats. No tissue paper- it was all just stuffed in a box. I may keep trying the box only because my dog liked the treats.
