Thank you to MindWare for providing me Product in exchange for review purposes all opinions belong to myself.
It’s incredible the amount of skills that can be obtained just from building with blocks. Blocks are an essential piece to every preschool or kindergarten class room for that very reason. Simple shaped blocks are great for beginners and intermediates but that isn’t to say that they can’t get boring sometimes. My children go back and forth between loving block building and being really tired of it. Blocks are always great for rainy days, snow days and sick days as there is more brain power and still concentration needed to complete a tower.
MindWare has created a new way to stack and build using animal shapes instead of simple blocks. The Wild Ways Stacking Wooden Animals set is a set of wooden stacking shapes ( monkeys and elephants) with hooked arms and trunks for challenging building structures. Each set contains 10 chunky, brightly painted wooden shapes.
My son and daughters first reaction to these stacking blocks was to do exactly the opposite of stack them! They played them on the floor piecing them together like a big puzzle. It seemed since the patterns are repeating they could fit and piece together animal after animal and make designs and shapes that were all 2 dimensional. When I showed the kids that you could actually stack and build, hook and hang each piece from and on top of each other their gears really started turning. My daughter found ways to make her pieces fit more stably using the flat edges to piece together while my son took more challenging route and wanted to try his hand at balancing and hanging the animals from each other.
With so many possibilities MindWare’s Wild Ways Stacking Wooden Animals Set is a great thing to have in the rainy day tool box for fun creative learning time with each other.
I am a stay at home mother of two, who loves to create in every form, from cooking, to henna, to painting or sculpting, creating with my hands is my passion! I love to dance and let loose when the music flows right. Being outside is a special kind of therapy I think humans need more of as well as mindfulness! I love all things new and adventurous and am always looking to experience more of life 🙂
