Kelsie may 2016

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Disney Baby for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I remember as a teenager browsing the internet and seeing mommy & me photos showing matching outfits, hairdos, shoes, or rock band t-shirts and thinking the pictures were so cute. I thought it was neat that you could someday pass on the interests that you love, whether it’s a certain band, cartoon or brand of shoes to your little one at least while they’re young enough to want to be like their mom. I day-dreamed about finding miniature versions of my favorite things for my daughter someday.

Yet, for those of us who love Disney characters we really can pass on our love of Disney Magic to future generations because the characters are still around. We don’t have to settle for just throwing a t-shirt that is special to us on our kids. We can introduce them to the TV shows, books and toys of the characters we love, so they can enjoy them as well. I still get little butterflies watching the Disney introduction in movies because I have so much nostalgia for Disney movies and characters. Disney really does create a magic feeling and experience for so many kids. I love that certain characters like Pooh, Mickey and Minnie have been around for decades so the love of these characters has spanned several generations already.

I was so excited when Kelsie naturally started steering towards Minnie Mouse. The show just always caught her attention and she always reached out for Minnie toys in the store. Her love of Minnie has only grown over time, and I love it. Even though the shows she watches are the modern ones, I still enjoy watching them with her because they’re the same characters that I fell in love with as a kid.

She’s all about being independent lately, which I think is a trait that is worth trying to foster. She has expressed an interest in doing everything she can for herself. She asks for almost any Minnie Mouse product we see in stores, so I knew she would be excited to get The Disney Baby Minnie Mouse Diaper Bag from Walmart. It had several practical features such as the ability to swap out several straps that seemed really practical to me. I also liked it’s size, pockets and of course the adorable Minnie Mouse design. She liked how it had her beloved Minnie on the outside, and how it looked like a big girl bag without any “babyish” colors. Independence, Minnie and practical functionality all in a single bag means a big win for me. There is a whole Disney Baby at Walmart collection that includes adorable baby-to-toddler gear that includes so many Minnie Mouse items that are on Kelsie’s wish-list.

Kelsie loves the bag. It’s pretty big for her but she carries it around on her own while playing. It has two pocket panels on the outside, one in front and one in back. Inside it has a large zipper, two elastic pouches on the end, and a couple of non-elastic pouches along the width of the bag. It comes with a baby changing mat, a water bottle cover, an extra-long strap, and two stroller straps. The bag has two non-removable straps that are great for using over one shoulder. However, if you prefer to wear it cross-body or with one long strap over your shoulder you can clip on the long strap which is length adjustable. Or you can clip on the two stroller hook pieces which are similar to a key fob in shape and length, and will stretch over your stroller handles so it hangs nicely in place without dangling. The detachable straps hook on at the ends, while the non-detachable straps attach in the middle so you can have the mid-length straps and the stroller straps, OR the mid-length straps and the cross-body strap on at the same time. This is great for functionality because I can switch from a shoulder to cross-body carry as needed.

The bag is big enough to hold Royce and Kelsie’s stuff for a regular days outing at the same time. I love how the zipper pulls have the Minnie (or Mickey) head shape cut out. The design is clearly well thought out.

Kelsie has showed her new bag to various family members, pointing out how it has Minnie on it and how it’s a bag for big girls. I love seeing her feel pride and independence in part due to our shared love of Disney.

When you have really little ones, it’s hard for any day to be stress free even though that’s what most moms with little ones long for most. It can be tough when you don’t get that chance to kick back and relax. Taking a deep breath and reminding yourself of the stage your little one is in right now can be helpful. Embrace the stage of motherhood that you’re currently in, and bond with your kid in a way that you can both enjoy. Sometimes you can even combine a relaxing activity with a bonding experience. For example, watching a family-friendly movie that captures your child’s attention can let you kick up for feet for a few minutes while also enjoying the time with your little one.

Do you share your favorite characters with your kids? What other interests do you share with your children? I’d love to hear how you’re going to incorporate your shared interests in your mother’s day plans!
