Thank you to Weston for providing me with product, free of charge, in exchange for this honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.
Like most kids, my kids enjoy those little packets of fruit-flavored gummy snacks. I try to buy the brands that say they contain real fruit, but I still don’t like giving my kids that much sugar… not to mention the artificial colors and flavors. Yuck!
When our fruit snack box was empty, I told the girls we were going to start making our own healthy fruit snacks. They giggled and asked if I really knew how to make fruit snacks. They had no idea what I was planning.
I sliced an assortment of fresh fruits- pineapple, strawberries, apples and bananas. I asked my older daughter, Savannah, to lightly dust the banana slices with cinnamon. I had my younger daughter, Cheyenne, place the fruit pieces on the trays of my new Weston 6 Tray Digital Food Dehydrator. Next, I stacked the trays on top of the food dehydrator base and then placed the lid on top.
The Weston food dehydrator comes with an instruction booklet. The booklet also contains suggested heat temps and dehydration time schedules. I determined that we should dehydrate our fruits on 135 degrees for a minimum of 6 hours. I did end up extending the time by a few hours.
When the fruit was done we had a taste test. The girls and I LOVED our new healthy fruit snacks…especially the pineapple! They taste so much better than the store bought packets and are a million times healthier for us.
The Weston 6 Tray Digital Food Dehydrator is super easy to use and clean. I look forward to using it more this summer with all of our garden produce- sundried tomatoes, zucchini, pear slices, herbs, and more!

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.

I have been looking for an excuse to replace my old dehydrator, which is basically a heating coil, lol. It is an old Ronco dehydrator that has seen better days but still works. It is round and I like that this one would fit better in my kitchen.

I tried dehydrating fruit in our oven and boy was it a disaster lol!! I decided then that I needed a dehydrator!! I love that this one is easy to clean!!

I am really going to have to invest in a dehydrator. We had so many apricots and plums this year, a bumper crop, and we ended up making so much jam. I would have loved to have had some dried apricots and dried plums to snack on.

I have always thought it would be awesome to have my own dehydrator at home! My kids love fruit snacks as well, these definitely sound like a much better alternative! 🙂 I must invest in one now, thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for the review! I have been wanting to get a dehydrator for awhile now and I will definitely be checking this one out!
